About

How many times have you had to set your soldering iron down because you couldn’t hold the solder and component, while trying to keep the circuit board from moving around?

PCB Rax is an easy to use, versatile circuit board holder for repair, prototyping, and assembly that can hold nearly any shape of circuit board. Sure there are other circuit board holders on the market, but they don’t hold odd shaped boards, and they don’t allow you to easily move them around.

PCB Rax – A modular system for holding circuit boards.

Not all circuit boards are rectangular. PCB Rax was designed to hold all kinds of different shaped circuit boards, from circles to christmas trees, and everything in-between. PCB Rax comes standard with 8″ connecting rods that can hold rectangular boards up to 9-1/2″ x 6-1/4″, and odd shaped boards up to 9-1/2″ x 5″. For larger projects the connecting rods can be replaced.

Work where you want to. Unlike heavy vise, you can move it to where you need it. You can flip it on its side to access both sides of the board, and flip it upside down to solder. It is even portable, take it to the project.

The PCB Rax is packed with features that make it easy to work on your projects.

 The PCB Rax rails include a slot for holding rectangular circuit boards without needing the extension brackets. They also have accessory slots that hold all of our accessories.

 The connecting rods are tightened with a set of thumb nuts (no tools needed) this makes it easy to set the correct pressure to hold the circuit board. If you need to hold larger circuit boards, the connecting rods can be replaced with inexpensive 1/4″-20 threaded rod available at most hardware stores.

 Extension Brackets hold odd shaped boards, or boards with tight clearance. They tighten with thumbs screws in just a few seconds. We include four extension brackets.

We are currently testing a variety of non slip feet to keep the PCB Rax from moving around. There will be non slip feet on both ends of the legs as well as the side for when it is placed on its side.

The PCB Rax ships with the following:

  • Two PCB Rax rails made from aircraft grade anodized aluminum
  • Two 1/4″-20 x 8″ connecting rods
  • Two thumb-nuts
  • Four PCB extension brackets with hardware – made from aircraft grade anodized aluminum
  • Assembly instructions (some assembly required)

If you want multiple PCB Raxs, just multiply $ 55 x the number of PCB Raxs that you want. (Example 3 x $55 = $165 for three PCB Raxs)

Note: Multi PCB Rax pledges will only be counted in multiples of $ 55. Early Bird prices are limited to one-per-backer.

 $ 30,000 - DIY & Complete 3rd Hand Bracket kits

3rd Hand DIY Bracket  - The kit will include the bracket, mounting hardware, and directions to make your own 3rd hands. You supply the locline and the alligator clips.

3rd Hand Kit - Includes two complete 3rd hands. (some assembly required)

$ 50,000 - Folding Legs

We have been working on these for a while. These would double the number of parts we have to machine. If we double our goal, we will include them as a standard feature.

Background

The first prototype of the PCB Rax was created a few years ago as a Christmas gift for my brother. I couldn't find a circuit board holder with the features I wanted that was affordable., so I designed and made one. I picked up the project again late last year and made some additional refinement and design changes. We have come up with a great product at the right price.

Why back us?

Backing us gets you a great reward and allows us to get to the next level in manufacturing. At this point, we have done all of our manufacturing on a manual milling machine. We plan to buy a small CNC machine and tooling from Tormach. This will allow us to manufacture PCB Rax in volume, and other great projects in the future.

Risks and challenges

We have been manufacturing and shipping our own products for a few years. When you back us, we are not contracting with outside machine shops to have our products made. We do all of the design, manufacturing, and shipping in house. This will mean long nights and weekends to fulfill the rewards. Over the last few years, we have built relationships with local material suppliers. We design our products to use common materials and components so we don't run into supplier issues. The unknown on this project is the shipping time. We will have a learning curve on some new equipment. It may take us a bit longer than we plan to get up to speed. We are confident we are ready and can make this project a success. All we need is your support.
