Hi there! We are Brooklyn Soda Works, an artisanal, small-batch draft soda company that got our start three & a half years ago right here on Kickstarter.
Why are we back then?
We need your help to get into 12oz bottles!
For the past 3 years Brooklyn Soda Works has been available on draft only – but as our company has grown, we’ve heard more and more customers tell us that while soda on draft is great, they would really love to bring home a bottle. Together we can get this bottling project off the ground and put delicious soda in fridges across NYC!
The best part about our initial Kickstarter project was the interaction with our current and future customers and the inspiration we got from all of you. We're back because we need some funding help to expand into bottles but also because we want to share this process with you. In return for your generosity and support you get to be the first to bring home some delicious Brooklyn Soda Works in brand new 12oz bottles that you helped make possible.
What will the money be used for?
The funds from this Kickstarter campaign will be used to:
- upgrade our bottling equipment
- design great looking 4-pack holders
- and create unique labels that are each as distinct as our flavors
What do we make and how is it different from regular sodas?
We produce all of our sparkling juices & hand-crafted sodas in-house at our facility in Brooklyn where we make everything by hand, using as much local & seasonal fruit as possible. We never make our sodas using syrups or concentrates - in fact many of our flavors are more than 80% fresh fruit juice. Some examples of our flavors include:
- Red currant & shiso
- Cucumber, lime & sea salt
- Yellow plum & basil
- Concord grape & fennel seed
- Hibiscus & mint
- Cranberry & sage
- Apple & ginger
With your help, we will debut Apple & Ginger and Hibiscus Mint 12oz bottles in spring 2014, and will also occasionally showcase seasonal specials throughout the year!
Brooklyn Soda Works was formed by an artist and a chemist in 2010 out of a desire to make a fantastic ginger beer to make Dark n Stormy cocktails with. Since then, we have grown several fold. We are on tap at several bars & restaurants in NYC as well as serving directly to thousands of customers at markets like Brooklyn Flea and at the High Line. We've been ranked #1 local soda by New York Magazine as well as receiving profiles in New York Times and BBC News, and our first Kickstarter project was called one of the coolest crowd-funded food projects by Food & Wine Magazine!
Big thanks to Frances Rather for her work editing our video!
Risks and challenges
Bottling is a new step for us - while we have years of experience producing hundreds of gallons of small-batch soda every week, and kegging it - bottling requires additional equipment and more of an investment. However we already have a pilot program where we have been filling 1 liter bottles by hand and so far the feedback has been great! Through this pilot program we've been able to see what flavors customers want to bring home, and also work out any pricing and distribution issues that may arise, before we expand and start bottling in 12oz bottles.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
