Micah and Me is a Kindie rock band! We host toddler dance parties all over Portland, Oregon and the Pacific Northwest! We were just voted a Top 5 Best Kindie Musician/Performer in Portland by PDX Parent! We are super excited to present our first album!
Who We Are!
Aaron Canwell started the band when he became a stay-at-home dad to his six month old son, Micah. Aaron was wandering around Portland looking for activities to do with his son. He stumbled into a Kindie performance. This performance engaged children young and old to sing and dance. Aaron attended performances during that first year and got hooked. He got the idea to take his love of music and movement to share with children. Shortly after he realized that having a band partner would be very helpful. Aaron posted in the Portland Dads At Home Facebook group asking if any other dads wanted to join him on this new adventure. Aaron plays the ukulele, sings and is the band's hype man!
Ryan Chouinard partnered with Aaron bringing the idea of Micah & Me to fruition. In addition to writing several of Micah & Me originals, Ryan plays the guitar, bass drum and sings in the band. Ryan has also been playing piano since he was 4 years old! His 16 year business background in the entertainment industry has helped lead the band's success. Ryan cares for Halle age 16, Ramsey age six, Paisley age four and Kindie age two.
For the past three years Aaron and Ryan have been performing as a duo and connecting with other dads and their children. Through these connections they met Justin Deckert, a talented bass player! Justin brings his past rock band experience to Micah & Me. He also cares for his three year old son, Arthur.
Chris Routly, as seen in the video below, is also president of the National At-Home Dad Network and occasionally lends his beautiful harmonies and sweet vocals on some of our bigger shows. He has also recently taken up the ukulele.
Now Micah & Me is a super fun band that does super fun things like toddler dance parties, birthday parties and family dance parties!
What We Are Doing!
After almost every show we are asked if we have a cd and the answer is always "sorry we don't!" So to remedy that we are recording our first album.
This album will bring the toddler dance party right into your own home! We will feature seven to eight original songs as well as two or three cover songs.
Why Are We Doing This?
We love making music for kids. As stay-at-home dads we have unique perspective, knowledge and passion to creatively and energetically play music for the whole family to enjoy! Our music connects, rejuvenates and inspires parents, caregivers and kids alike!
What You Can Do To Help!
We need your help! It will cost approximately $6,000 to record, produce, engineer, duplicate, design, promote, secure rights, finish the album and mail rewards to supporters.
With your help in completing this Kickstarter we will be able to hire Johnny Bregar, whose name on our album will establish Micah & Me in the Kindie music world! Johnny is a talented and extremely gifted producer and engineer who will help translate our energetic toddler dance party performances to a high quality audio recording!
Backers can expect to receive their rewards in October! The rewards will range from digital downloads, physical CD’s, favorite band recipes, birthday parties, and backyard concerts. We have already worked very hard in the last three years to gain the support of kids and their parents throughout the Portland and surrounding areas! With the support of our friends, family and fans as well as our own hard work our new album can be a reality!
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk is balancing our lives as at-home dads who are extremely involved with our families in the recording, producing and implementing of this album! We never know when one of our kids will become sick...and then the whole family does as well. We are familiar with these risks and deal with them all year around as we perform 3-5 shows a week! The good thing is that the summer is coming (and that is when we will do all the recording and producing) and kids tend to be sick less during that time!
Each of us comes with unique talents and experience that will enable us to create and complete this project!
Aaron received a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Audio/Video and a minor in English. These design skills and audio/video experience are already a great asset to the band!
Ryan was an electrician and concert lighting specialist whose business mind is always perfecting the Micah and Me show!
Justin has a degree in Theology and works as a life insurance specialist! He has written the Micah and Me mission and plays an integral role in guiding the band and clarifying their goals!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
