Hey friends! This is a campaign to raise funds to print my first book, We Were Like Sons. Let me tell you all about it!
Almost seven years ago I rode my bike from California to New York City with my best friend Les, and as you might imagine, it was a trip I'll never forget.
We saw and experienced so much. Everything from the Colorado Rockies, the Great Plains, the Appalachians, and the utter enormity of New York City. Even more than the sights, though, were the people we met along the way. If you had told me that two post-college dudes could be put up by strangers almost every night of their journey across America, I would have laughed at you.
But it happened. Les said it best while we were leaving a host's house in Colorado Springs: "Aaron, we were like sons to those people."
I really thought so too.
Personally, I've always wanted to become an author, and the idea of writing a book about the U.S. tour sounded incredible. So, I started practicing, and all the while started taking more bicycling tours to keep the sensations fresh.
Finally, about a year and a half ago, I hit an amazing stride and the manuscript about flew from my mind onto my pages. I wrote and wrote and wrote!
As of the beginning of this year, We Were Like Sons was finally complete.
It's a narrative about adventure, yes. But it's also a memoir about finding identity, dealing with heartbreak, childhood fistfights, and other good stuff. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Risks and challenges
I am choosing to self-publish this book. In short, this means that I have contracted my own editors, proofreaders, designers, pr personnel, and production team. Logistically, this means that we have a lot of up-front costs before the book can finally be printed, shipped, and into yours and my hands.
I'm asking for $5,250, and this is the minimum I need in order to completely self-publish 500 copies. Every cent of what we're trying to raise will go right back into making this book. The only risk is that if we can't raise enough money, We Were Like Sons can't be made. Period.
I've come up with a ton of fun prizes, including bike tune-ups, bike tours, posters, bookmarks, t-shirts, and plenty more, and I am ALL IN! If you pledge for it, you will get it!
I sincerely hope you'll join me as this tour continues. I honestly hope it never ends!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
