Reviews on the State Series. What do students and teachers think of the State Series?
104 High School Students in Creative Writing and English Courses made a connection to the first chapter of the State Series.
100% said they would continue to read more.
“What makes this a great story is that the reader is able to make a connection with the characters. As the main character progresses further in their journey making their way through trials and tribulations, you feel as you yourself is alongside the main character experiencing the same. And having the element for a reader being able to make an emotional connection with the character can develop an attachment between the readers and author that is valuable to any story.” -Anthony Britt (Glendale Community College)
“ In just a few chapters, Susan introduces the setting, and main characters of the novel. This fiction novel contains a combination of action, mystery and romance. Using proper writing techniques, the author creates a very convincing illusion in the readers mind. Justin Susan rises to this challenge with great skill in this accomplished, atmospheric and thoughtful novel.” - Megan Pruet (Estrella Mountain Community College)
“At the start of the story, it was a bit slow moving and bit tedious before I really got to know the main character, Noah Felix, but character development really took off and quickly began to pick up the pace. The State Series encompassed romance and honor, with a splash of humor thrown into the mix for good measure. The genre combination had me wanting to read more, I just couldn't put it down. After I finished the story I realized there were countless numbers of lessons in it. Namely, the lesson that stuck out to me was that if you want something, you have to work hard to go and get it. To me, this lesson is very relatable because, as an athlete, I have to push myself and reach new limits to better myself and my teammates. All in all, The State Series was a great read and had great lessons.” -Ari Strick (Northern Arizona University)
“Filled with mystery, action, romance and culture this book was phenomenal. You are rooting for Noah with every turn of the page and following his amazing journey into this stronger, more mature man was so inspirational. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves to read.” –Kat Mott (Glendale Community College)
“As a teacher, you always want what’s best for students. When, I was approached by a student claiming to have written a book, I was impressed. I know him well and always hope that he can be the best possible everything he wants; however, I was also nervous. What if it’s not great? What if he’s not thorough? What if I’m indifferent or apathetic toward his dream? What I should have wondered is this: What if he is brilliant? What if he has done more than I ever expected of him? Because those things and so much more are true of The State Series. As I read, I could not help being blown away; Justin Susan did it: he really crafted a novel, and a quality one at that. Its plot line is strong, its story intriguing, its characters meaningful. I am ashamed of the doubt that I had for someone that I truly believe in, and he has proven once again how exceptional he, and his writing, are. If I know one thing, it is this: this story and this young man are not to be underestimated; both are more amazing than you can probably imagine.” - Roxane Terjesen (High School English Language Arts Teacher)
“This instant classic leaves you wanting more! Although fiction, the main character feels real and easy to connect with as though I'm right there with him on this exhilarating quest to find answers. I couldn't put the book down! It shares this perfect blend of action, adventure, and romance to keep you on the edge of your seat. After reading it, all I wanted was more! This truly is a reputable book!” - Autumn Hoffner (Centennial High School)
“Inspirational. The best word used to describe this book. It’s interesting how this book portrays such an impacting point of view on life from the eyes of a diverse teenage boy. This book lets us see obstacles we could face throughout our life as opportunities presented to us for the change of our very own mindset. The different situations this teen passes through slowly begin to mold his ideology into something positive that not only impacted him in the end, but everyone in his surroundings. All the moments this book has, from heartwarming to jaw clenching, will make you continue reading until you have gotten the full experience it can provide.” - Ruben Mendoza (Glendale Community College)
