TFJ Playing Cards (Canceled)
A custom deck of simplistic playing cards designed for magicians, collectors, and card enthusiasts.
How Does Kickstarter Work?
Kickstarter is an all or nothing crowd funding website. When you pledge for a reward, you are not paying for it right away, you simply have the certain amount of funds on hold until the end of the funding period. At the end of that period, if the goal of $15,000 is reached, the cards will get printed and you will get your rewards! If less than $15,000 is raised, your funds will be released, and you lose absolutely nothing!
What are TFJ Playing Cards?
TFJ Playing Cards are high quality playing cards designed to please the user's hands, and eyes. These luxurious playing cards will be printed by the United States Playing Card Company with high quality paper, and will have a linen finish. For reference, the cards will be much higher quality than standard Bicycle Playing Cards, and will handle phenomenally!
What Does TFJ Stand For?
TFJ stands for The Fifth Jack. The Fifth Jack started off as being my username for my magic and playing card related channel on Instagram. With the release of this deck, TFJ playing cards will be the first deck for my The Fifth Jack Playing Card Company!
Please check out this GIF to see the cards!
The Back Design:
There are so many cards on the market right now that have colorful and complicated back designs, so I decided to make mine stand out by having them simple, yet elegant. The center circle on the back has been specifically designed to enhances a cardist/magicians card spins. When the card is spinning, the circle does not move, but the rest of the card seems to rotate around it. The cards also have thin borders, with sharp corner, to make card fans look truly spectacular.
The Faces:The Fifth Jack playing cards have custom pips, and coloring. The Spades and Clubs pips are standard black, whereas the Hearts and Diamonds are the exact same shade of bright red as the back design. All four pips have been custom designed to bring a clean and elegant demeanor to the faces of the cards. The court cards are all one color; either Red, or Black. I wanted to keep the court cards simple, but give them an elegant flair to match the simplicity of the rest of the cards. Every deck will include a duplicate Jack Of Spades card, rather than an advertisement card.
The Jokers:The Fifth Jack playing cards include two identical simple joker cards. The jokers were derived from the following picture:
The jokers represent the common phrase "hide an ace up your sleeve".
To see the back design, ace of spades, joker, and face cards, see the GIF picture above!
The tuck box has been designed to represent the simplicity of the playing cards within. The box includes the circular TFJ logo on the front, and it boasts the back design of the cards on the back of the box. The tuck flap has a "your card is the jack of spades" card reveal on it for magicians when they are performing tricks. With this reveal, when the spectator chooses the Jack of Spades card, you can simply reveal their card has been impossibly printed on the box.
The box will be wrapped in cellophane, but will not have a sticker seal. I find the sticker seals don't really do anything but collect dust and make the box sticky if you try to take them off. If enough people ask me to release a seal, I will release one as a stretch goal!
TFJ Card Clip:
An updated picture will be released soon!
This red leather card clip will protect you cards from becoming bent or damaged when they are in your pocket. Every card clip will be handcrafted by Ryan Edwards from REhandcrafted.com, specifically made to protect your brand new TFJ playing cards. The card clip has been laser engraved, and the engravings have been painted black to outline the display of the Ace Of Spades on the front, the four custom pips along the spine, and the back design on the back of the card clip. With every card clip purchase, one free deck of TFJs will be added to your package!
TFJ Uncut Sheet:
An uncut sheet of TFJ playing cards is exactly as the title says! It is a sheet of all the cards, both front and back. They are perfect to frame and put up on your wall. If you are interested in the project but don't play a lot of cards, this reward is for you! Every uncut sheet comes with a complimentary deck of TFJ playing cards.
Dimensions: 21 7/8" x 26 3/8"
My Story/Where TFJ Originated:
About six months ago I started posting magic related pictures and video to Instagram. Shortly after beginning my postings, I began selling Playing Cards to my followers. At that time, my username was "pics_of_cards", but needless to say, I needed to find a more suitable name. I had dreams about one day starting up my very own website to sell playing cards, and magic tricks, so I decided to name myself something that would represent my company. I had been thinking of a good name for a few weeks when I saw the movie "Now You See Me". In this magic related movie, the four magicians call themselves "The Four Horsemen". I wanted to call myself "The Fifth Horseman", but the name, and all of it's variants were taken. I then thought that I could name myself after one of the playing cards (the Jack of Spades), but the name didn't sit well with me. I eventually decided on The Fifth Jack, and have been going by that on Instagram ever since!
Many famous song writers, or authors say that they often come up with ideas in their sleep. This is exactly how I came up with my TFJ logo. In the middle of the night I had visions of a logo that combined The Fifth Jack's three initials. I drew the logo out, and in the morning, I designed it on Microsoft Paint. I then took that logo and designed myself a deck of The Fifth Jack playing cards. I printed a single deck of the cards through the USPCC and began posting pictures of them on Instagram. I instantly began getting countless comments about how much my followers loved the cards. They urged me to do a Kickstarter campaign for them ever since, and now here we are!
Shipping and Pricing:
Keep in mind these prices are CAD. The current conversion rate between CAD and USD is 0.92 USD to 1.00 CAD. That means the 108$ brick of TFJ's really only costs US backers approx. 99$!
The beauty of the magic and playing card community is that people all over the world have an interest in collecting and using playing cards, and because of this, I have done my best to accomidate those of you who live internationally, and create an affordable deck, with affordable shipping.
So you may be wondering why I have said that shipping is free worldwide. The shipping cost isn't necessarily free, it has simply been included in the deck already. I typically see decks up on Kickstarter that are 12-14$ a deck, PLUS 6-8$ for international shipping. I have worked hard to find out a way to completely eliminate that extra shipping cost, and charge as little as I can, without losing too much money out of my pocket.
Since I live in Canada, a large majority of backers would be having to pay for International shipping. To work around this, I found out all shipping costs from 1 to 12 decks, and have included their cost into the price. Here is a little idea of what shipping costs per deck:
1 Deck is 9-10$. The single deck option is set at 14$ for a deck because of this high shipping price. Unfortunately this is the best I can do for a single deck!
2 Decks is 9-10$. Since shipping goes by weight, two decks still falls under the same category as one deck, thus making the price for two decks much more affordable.
6 Decks is about 16-19$ for shipping.
12 Decks is 25-30$.
The price per deck for shipping goes down very quickly the more decks you buy, hence why the prices for the decks also go down the more you buy. For one deck, 9$ of the 12$ (early bird) or 14$ for regular backers is going towards the shipping. I actually am losing money from people buying single decks. That is why I have limited the single decks to only 150. (50 early backers, 100 regular backers). On the other side of the reward spectrum, pledging for 12 decks will break down to only 9$ per deck including international shipping, which is the best deck per dollar ratio!
To get around the cheap cost of the cards, I've had to raise my goal from $10,000 to $15,000. My goal is to have backers pay less, get more, and have more backers to compensate for the cheaper cards!

Risks and challenges
I have been in contact with USPCC representatives on and off for a few months prior to the release of this project, and they have given me every single detail I have needed. Along with their help, my friend Mike Lambert (designer of Metropol Nox Playing Cards) has given my extraordinary help with how to properly run a campaign from start to finish. I previously ran an unsuccessful Kickstarter Campaign and because of that, I now know valuable lessons to help get this project funded! Once the project is funded, I will be in contact on a near day basis to ask for updates on the production, and shipping of the cards. The USPCC has been very busy recently with the printing of many decks, so if there is any delay at all, I will notify all backers immediately!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
