About this project
City Siege is a squad building, physics-based platformer-strategy game, featuring maximum destruction with completely destructible environments. You start with just a single rifleman to take on the first level and build up your army with your earnings from each mission, buying Tanks, Helicopters, Spies and more.
The emphasis is firmly on the destruction element of the gameplay. Blowing up buildings is fun, especially when those buildings all collapse in a totally dynamic way. Set em on fire or fire some rockets at em - do it your way! Or why not buy an air-strike and cause maximum destruction?
City Siege is unique in it's levels of destructible scenery. Buildings collapse realistically. You can blow a building to bits with high explosives, burn them down or take out precise sections and watch it topple over. This is the only game that does this the way it does - a truly unique experience.
We are nearing completion of the greatest version of City Siege we've ever made with all new graphics, units, gameplay and game engine. We just need a little help to get us over the finishing line - we're a two-man team and with only a couple of months work left, we've set our funding goal to a level that will allow us to get there.
Previous City Siege games, sponsored by Armor Games have proven very popular:
- Over 16 Million plays on Armor Games alone, with millions more over the web
- 4 Sequels and 1 level pack
- Average Rating 90%+
We get asked all the time when the next City Siege is coming out. We love working on the City Siege series and want to give our fans the best version ever!
City Siege 1,2,3 and 4 pictured below.
City Siege has been greenlit on Steam for over 3 years. Sure, we could just port the existing version, but we want to make something a bit more special.
We'll create an exclusive facebook group and mini-site for our backers, so we can distribute your game keys and keep you updated with the latest info. We tweet a lot and post updates to our facebook page when we have some new info about the progress of the game, but some stuff we will save just for you, the backers!
Starting with a single rifleman, take on the first easy level and earn some cash to invest in heavy firepower for the later levels or why not try using some of your big weapons on the earlier levels in a kind of destruction sandbox - all while earning extra cash so you can further expand and level-up your forces.
All versions of City Siege let you build an army.
There is a wide selection of units available, all with differing abilities. You can also buy Air Strikes, Napalm Strikes, Medics and more.
At the start of each mission you can choose up to 5 units to deploy, which you can switch between at will during the mission in order to take advantage of each unit's unique features. Units can be evacuated and other units from your reserves can be dropped in at any time - allowing you to play each mission your own way.
Control each unit in the same way as you would in a traditional platform game, using WASD or Cursor Keys and the Mouse to aim and shoot.
Some levels have civilians or hostages to save in order to complete the mission objective. And every level features destructable buildings, which can also be set on fire, with the possibility of earning big combos from skillful baddie kills, taking advantage of the physics engine the game runs on.
Levels are unlocked based on star system - each level has 3 stars you can earn and new levels unlock when you have reached x amount of stars so you may have to re-do some earlier levels towards the end of the game in order to unlock the last few levels. The level map is non-linear so usually you will have 2 or 3 options of which level to attempt next. Some levels may require specific units in order to play them.
Each level also has score tables for highest score and best time for maximum replay value.
Possibly the most important update - the game engine has had a complete overhaul. It performs much better and we can do a lot more with it than with the old City Siege games. That means more stuff on screen, more effects and a generally better looking game and we've also given it a graphical overhaul while we were at it.
The engine itself is at least 90% complete. We just have some tweaks, polish and optimising left. The majority of the work still to be done on the game as a whole is in the content department – we need to finalise the tileset and design the missions in our level editor.
- You can now climb and swing on vines giving your foot soldiers more mobility than ever before
- The spy now has a brand new hide ability, hide in the background to avoid detection
- Regenerating health and critical injuries. Critically injured soldiers will be unavailable for the next mission (unless you heal them)
- Patrolling enemy foot soldiers - baddies were static before and a bit stupid, their AI has been vastly improved
- Inter-faction battles between NPCs. Provoke the baddies to fight among themselves
- Re-spawning baddies. Defend missions will have spawn points for the enemies - you will need to survive the whole onslaught
- A complete new set of units, all re-designed an re-balanced
- More mission types. It's not just about killing baddies and saving civilians any more - we now have "Defend" missions, "Destroy Objective" missions and timed missions
- More particles and effects and more on-screen action than ever before
City Siege Factions takes place on a island with a jungle, occupied by three opposing factions. The island has natural resources (oil), gold and wildlife as well as an indiginous population of savages.
There are several areas of the island, all with their own features and look:
- Poacher Camp
- Native Village
- Mercenary Base
The Mercenaries are who you will play as. The mercenaries fight on behalf of western interests in the island. There is oil here and we want it! Take control of the island so we can build oil wells and take the gold.
- Armoured Sentries
We will need to protect our bases from attack, destroy enemy areas, rescue our scientists and take over every area of the island.
The Poachers are here for the wildlife, but will also claim any gold they find. There is a tentative cease-fire in some areas with the natives – you can trick them in to attacking each other and blame the deaths on them instead (as well as earning and extra cash bonus for inter-faction kills).
- Rifles/Elephant Guns
- Experimental Contraptions (flying, zapping and crushing)
- Experimental Grenades
The Natives were here first! They have villages here and areas for worship. Unfortunately some of the villages will need to be “relocated” as they are in the way of our oil wells. “Educate” the natives and make sure nothing stands in our way.
- Catapult Carts
We have mostly just the game content and balancing to do. New objects need designing and the tileset needs expanding so we can get all the levels designed. We've already done months of work updating and improving the engine and adding in new features.
We should be able to finish the content off over the next couple of months with a view to a March 2017 release on Steam, priced at $9.99 (with an initial discount on release).
The initial version will contain 20+ Mercenary missions. The missions will offer good replay value because it's always fun to go back and replay levels with heavy weapons – every level is designed to work well as a destruction sandbox environment once you've completed the mission properly. There are 8 Mercenary units to purchase with in-game earnings and each unit gains xp and will level up as you use them.
Depending on sales, we plan to add in the Poachers and Natives as playable factions and possibly a new endless game-mode, as a paid or free DLC (definintely free to our backers).
If we break our £5,000 funding target well work towards getting the Poachers and Natives playable much sooner!
Risks and challenges
As with any game, there's always the risk of the features set expanding and running out of control (feature creep). We've already finalised our feature set for this reason and decided to release the intial version with just the mercenaries playable. It would be great to smash that funding goal and add in more playable units, levels and gameplay modes!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
