Our projects are built upon conversations and dialog between different artistic disciplines and this creates an environment where different opinions and points of view are accepted and celebrated.
We are two artists, from two different countries and cultures. Tali Farchi, an Israeli/Dutch artist that lives in the Netherlands, and Royce Deans, an artist that lives in Michigan. We have been working together for five years, and twice a year we get together in some part of the world to set up a studio space where we invite local musicians of all genres to play their music as our subject. The public is always invited to be involved as they witness the creative conversation and process unfold in new and often unexpected ways.
"The Looking Box" will take place during ArtPrize 2012 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is really exciting to us since upwards of 200,000 people come to see ArtPrize and given our venue in Purple East at 250 Ionia SW, we realistically could have 50,000 visitors in to see our work.
"The Looking Box" is about point of view and choices. The installation presents several obvious points of view that are represented by our paintings, because they show our individual and separate interpretations of the very same inspiration provided by the musicians and music. We find great energy is generated each time we collaborate with a new musician, dancer or poet. Each time we work our projects we learn more about the creative process as each artist has their own way of working and interpreting experiences.
Our Looking Box project celebrates the unique nature of a point of view by providing a platform for everyone's very own point of view to be displayed. We will invite everyone to share.
During each of the 19 days of the project we will have multiple sessions with live musicians that are free and open to the public. In each case there will be a new dialogue between the disciplines of our paintings and the music, and over the course of the project each of us will complete 25 paintings that will be exhibited on the walls.
In order for all this happen we are asking for your support. As a backer you can know that your money will go toward purchasing a flight ticket for Tali from Amsterdam to Grand Rapids, paint, canvas and materials to set up the project, as well as some of our living expenses during time we are working the Looking Box. During the 30 days of this Kickstarter campaign we are depending on you, but you can depend us because we are giving the most unique and original rewards
Check them out and come join the celebration!
