The story of Beyond Good and Evil centers around Shutterworth who is a talented aspiring emcee going through some rough patches in life. He contemplates suicide only to be encouraged by a demon disguised as an angel. A confused Shutterworth is almost killed when an angel intervenes and saves his life. This unexpected action starts a fight between the angel and the demon. Shutterworth is quickly thrown into the middle of it. He soon finds out that this small battle is a part of a much larger ongoing war between God and Satan where humans are looked at as pawns and the world is nothing more than a battlefield. After finally realizing his inner strength is more powerful than he could have imagined, a determined Shutterworth vows to do the impossible which is to put an end to the Soul Wars all by himself.
Origin of how Beyond Good & Evil was created. Shutterworth is not only the main character of Beyond Good and Evil, but he’s also my emcee persona in animated form. Growing up as a kid I felt that there weren’t a lot of cool Black super heroes that I could relate to and as an adult I still feel the same way. There wasn’t anybody that really represented the hood and talked and acted like we did. So while in the process of recording a song with talented producer BlackDroog for an upcoming mixtape that I was working on, we thought it would be cool to build a story behind the music we were creating. We both had a love for comics and anime so it was the next logical step. I quickly drew myself in cartoon form and put a story together that fit the musical tone. Later on another talented producer by the name of Clanarchy would help us mix and arrange the soundtrack for the first episode and the rest was history. ShutterDroog Comics was born. Each 20 page episode has original drawings as well as an original soundtrack that acts as a back drop for what’s taking place on the pages. The songs can definitely stand on their own and weren’t created to help tell the story, but only to emphasize the mood and emotions that are being displayed on the page. It’s like reading a comic book while listening to your stereo play some music that has the same vibe as the story you’re reading.
As of now everything is hand drawn and scanned into a computer. It's a decent start for something that has much potential. In an effort to increase that potential, I'd like to upgrade the production values for the next episode by having the pages colored therefore bringing more life to the series and giving it a more professional look. The funds acquired during this campaign will be used for that purpose.
If you're entertained by the videos of episodes 1 and 2, you'll definitely want to see how the rest of this story pans out, as well as seeing it in color where all the fight scenes and fantasy elements will pop out in front of your face in a wide array of vibrant colors.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk this project faces is getting all the pages of the comic series colored efficiently in a timely manner. I'll make sure that whoever takes on this project will have a flexible enough schedule to give themselves ample amount of time to complete the coloring of this episode.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
