It's common knowledge that SEO is a core part of any proper digital marketing strategy. But good Search Engine Optimization is a technical process. There are a lot of moving parts and it takes a lot of time and effort to get the understanding required to do it yourself, or even to talk knowledgeably to a freelancer or an agency.

For a small business or a startup, each person involved wears multiple hats and has a wide variety of responsibilities and bandwidth starts to become an issue. Understandably, SEO is rarely a top priority, so it often gets outsourced in situations like this.

The problem is this- if nobody in the organization has an understanding of SEO, it's hard to know if the team or individual managing the campaign is doing the right things to get you results. You're going in blind, hoping for the best.

To make it even harder, most SEO campaigns take a few months to start showing results. Typically, agencies and freelancers will tell you that it will take 3-6 months to start seeing results. And this is true if they're doing the right things. If they make the right changes, search engines will eventually pick up on the changes, move you up in the rankings, and sales will start happening.

That's if they're doing the right things.

What also can happen is this: The agency or freelancer pitches you a campaign. They tell you they've found all sorts of issues that need to be fixed. They use all sorts of technical jargon and make what seems to be an authoritative pitch. You sign a contract, understanding that results won't come in for 3-6 months.

You pay them $2500 a month for 6 months. And after the 6 months, still no results. You go to another agency and get a second opinion. They come back with a list of issues they found. You find out that the people who had been working on your campaign hadn't been doing things quite right. You cancel the contract, but you've lost 6 months of time and $10,000 of your company's hard-earned money

The agency that gave you the second opinion is trying to convince you that they are better and that you'll be sure to get results if you sign a contract with them. They explain why, but the technical jargon goes over your head. You don't know who to trust because of your previous experience. You don't have another $10k to throw away on another SEO campaign that won't bring a positive ROI. But despite this, you know that you need SEO in order for your business to succeed. You feel lost and don't know who to trust.

This may seem extreme, but it has happened too many times.

We're Matt and Cody- The founders of Pinnacle Audits.
At the agencies we worked at, the most common concern people would bring up to us was a lack of trust because of a bad experience that they or one of their colleagues had with an agency. They or someone they knew had been taken advantage of, and they were afraid of that happening to them.

It was very difficult for us to gain our client's trust because all we could do is point to previous successes with other clients and use what ended up being technical jargon to explain why what we do is better.

Previous successes weren't convincing enough, because each industry and each market is different and has unique challenges and opportunities.

And even if our reasoning was sound on why our technical approach was better than other agencies or freelancers, the explanation was rarely understood. For many small business owners we talked to, SEO was basically internet wizardry and they got overwhelmed whenever they tried to understand it.

In the end, it usually all boiled down to us having to just say "well, you can trust us".

Which sounds about as unconvincing as it was. After a few months, we would get the clients the results they wanted, and then they trusted us and kept us on as their SEO provider. But those first months were often difficult and stressful for both the SEO provider and the SEO client.

So we decided to do something about it.

We created Pinnacle Audits. The premium third-party SEO audit service. A truly independent voice that can identify issues and opportunities without the incentive to overstate in order to get clients. We have no clients. We do no implementation. We are just an unbiased second opinion that you can compare to the audit your freelancer or agency has given you.

Our audits are broken down into 3 packages. Basic, Regular, and Premium. For these audits, we normally charge $500, $1000, and $1500 respectively. There is a lot of work that goes into these audits, both in experience and in man-hours.

With our Kickstarter Campaign though, we are offering each package at 40% off for early bird supporters and 30% off for later supporters.

Our premium audit is well over 60 pages of pertinent digestible information, summary, analysis, and action items.

And each audit you get from pinnacle audits comes with a folder of all the exhaustive data sets we looked at. That way, you can see all the information for all of your site, not just the boiled down audit report.

For perspective, most agencies spend the first month of their campaign doing audits and analysis. Even ones who charge a monthly retainer of $2500+.

So with Pinnacle Audits, you're getting a great deal.

How does the audit bring peace of mind?

If you are wondering whether or not you can trust the person (or people) taking care of your SEO, all you need to do is compare the audit they provided you with to the audit from Pinnacle Audits.

If there is a significant discrepancy between the items on our audit and the one your agency or freelancer provided, then you may want to have a conversation with them. But if the audits match up- then you can move forward with peace of mind and stop losing sleep over your SEO.

Don't let trust issues get in the way of your success. Use an audit from Pinnacle Audits to bridge the gap of trust between you and your agency or freelancer.

Risks and challenges

Obviously, SEO is very technical. And it changes depending on the nature of the business. An E-commerce campaign is going to look a lot different than a campaign for a local service-based business.

We have both worked for and had success for a wide variety of clients. From large corporations with franchise locations to small local retail businesses to small blogs to large brands to small e-commerce sites, we've done SEO for it all. And through it all, we've had successes and failures. We've learned from the failures to increase our chances of success. We reflect that in each of our audits. We take into consideration the unique aspects of the businesses we work with.

Another challenge is the fact that search engines change their algorithms regularly and best practices can change literally overnight.

We've worked through algorithm changes with clients before. We make it a point to stay sharp and up-to-date on best practices in regards to SEO because being out of date is a recipe for failure. We've incorporated that into our Audits as well. If we learn of a change in best practices, we waste no time in reflecting that in our audits.

As it stands now, we are both working day jobs and this is a part-time venture for us. But it's something we are passionate about and something we want to become full-time for us. The part-time nature of it is certainly a challenge at the moment, but if the feedback we get from this campaign is positive, we are willing to make this a top priority and a full-time responsibility.

*Note: An audit from Pinnacle Audits does not guarantee results. We follow best practices and draw from our experience to offer our professional opinion. We cannot positively guarantee that fixing the issues identified in our audit will provide you with results.
