On Halloween night, Charlie & Clow protect their city from a roaming wendigo. This story ran as a webcomic from October 2016 until January 2018, with 65 pages of full-color urban fantasy action, as Charlie & Clow team up with a demon and his witch lover on their butt-kicking romp.
And now, The Case of the Wendigo is coming to print… if we meet our fundraising goal!
“Hold it!” You might be saying. “Who the frick are you to ask for money for a book like this?”
I’m Kelci Crawford, the creator of the Charlie & Clow adventures, including The Case of the Wendigo. I also created other projects and got them funded on KickStarter (here’s the KickStarter pages for Seeing Him, Johnson & Sir, Thoughtful Dinosaur, Validation Buttons, and the latest project, Witches: The Sketchbook). So this isn’t my first KickStarter rodeo, y’all.
What this campaign is aiming to do is raise funding for getting The Case of the Wendigo to print. This 70-page book will include fancy additions like:
- retouched and remastered comic pages
- a showcase of how a page gets made, from script to final design
- behind-the-scenes sketches
- character biographies
- and other goodies!
Here’s what we’re looking to get funding for. Brace yourself for numbers:
- at least 30 copies of the book
- $35 for set-up fee with the comic book printer
- $30 for shipping the books to me
- $150 for shipping the books to backers
- $50 for miscellaneous fees, expenses, and other things that might pop up.
(You may have noticed that an ISBN and barcode were not included. That’s because Witches: The Sketchbook raised enough money on its campaign to cover the cost of the ISBN/barcode for this campaign.)
Now here's the stretch goal(s): My friend Chloe and I want to make a one-shot comic starring Claudia and Acrudon, the resident witch/demon couple of The Case of the Wendigo, and extra money raised in this campaign can help towards fairly compensating Chloe for her work during production of this short. (Here's a KickStarter update on our agreement)
If you can give, that’s fantastic! If you’re broke, please share this campaign with your urban fantasy-loving friends. Every share and every little bit helps.
Thank you for your support!
You. Are. Awesome.
Risks and challenges
As mentioned, this isn't my first KickStarter case. I know to expect the demons of Printing Errors, Shipping Costs, and Delayed Reward Fulfillment.
The first two demons can be easily slain. The third will take dedication on my part, especially since a good portion of these rewards are commission-based.
There is also the issue of remastering the comics pages. They won't be redrawn from top-to-bottom, but there are some that will require heavy doctoring. This will be worked on as the campaign is running, and if pages are still not finished, that will be announced when the campaign ends.
At any rate, any snag in operations will be posted in update form here on the KickStarter page, to keep backers in the know.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
