What is RED WINTER?
An action-packed crime thriller, RED WINTER is set in the Russian criminal underworld and deals with a disgraced former Detective’s misguided attempts at redemption. It is steeped in the complicated relationships between fathers and sons, cops and felons, as well as the hatred that rages between rival gangs.
A four-issue miniseries, it will appeal to fans of Jason Aaron and Ed Brubaker, as well as prose writers like Dennis Lehane, Michael Connelly and Charlie Huston.
This Kickstarter campaign is to fund printing of #1, all 20 pages of which are already complete!
What's the story?
ELI WINTER is a former NYPD Detective in his mid-50’s, now living in Moscow, employed by the local crime boss NIKOLAI DUBROVSKY as a fixer/bag man/enforcer. Eli hates Moscow; it’s too cold, he can’t stand the food and he bristles at being Dubrovsky’s hired goon. But, if it wasn’t for Dubrovsky and his ‘Rasplata Rytsari’ (The Knights Reckoning) gang, Eli would be rotting in an American prison. So he owes the old Russian bastard.
The story picks up with Eli being enlisted to investigate the destruction of one of Dubrovsky’s meth labs; his men have been killed and all money/merchandise has been stolen. Eli likes this assignment as it makes him feel like a cop again. However, it is soon revealed that the murders were committed by Eli’s son Joseph. He came to Moscow with his friend Yuri, who was to vouch for him working for the ‘Chistyye Krovi’ (Pure Blood) gang, and the meth lab murders were Joseph’s initiation.
Now Dubrovsky’s gang will be out for blood and Joseph needs his estranged father’s help; he’s in way over his head. Eli makes the decision to protect his son against the vicious gang he works for, perhaps hoping to atone for his past sins.
Who Is The Creative Team?
Writer - Michael Gordon (TRANSDIMENSIONAL, Stan Lee's LUCKY MAN: THE BRACELET CHRONICLES)
Transdimensional is another 4 issue miniseries, a sci-fi/horror tale published by TPub Comics. #1, #2 AND #3 have all been funded successfully on Kickstarter. In fact, #3 was recently so successful on the platform that we made nearly 300% of the funding goal! Here is a link to WebToons, where you can read the first two issues in webcomic form: https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/transdimensional/list?title_no=153804
I was also recently announced as the co-writer (along with Neil Gibson of Twisted Dark) on the upcoming licensed comic LUCKY MAN: THE BRACELET CHRONICLES, based on the British TV show brainchild of Stan 'The Man' Lee! #1 comes out on July 11th, and here is a link to an article with a preview of the comic: https://www.bleedingcool.com/2018/03/29/stan-lees-lucky-man-now-a-comic-series-from-tpub-16-page-preview/
Pencils/Inks - Francisco Munoz (https://franciscomunoz.deviantart.com/)
Francisco is a wonderful Mexican artist and his gritty, stylized approach to the story suits it perfectly. Check out some of his amazing original pencils/inks, which make dynamic use of greyscale:
Colourist - Rolands Kalnins (https://marvelzukas.deviantart.com/)
Rolands is a man of many talents. He did pencils, inks, colours AND lettering for TALES OF THE FRACTURED MIND which was successfully funded on Kickstarter, and will also be providing some work for its spiritual sequel TALES OF FRACTURED WORLDS (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/roddymccance/tales-of-fractured-worlds?ref=card).
Letterer - Nikki Sherman (http://nikkipowers.tumblr.com/)
Nikki is an excellent letterer who has provided sterling work in many indie comics, including several that were funded on Kickstarter (including the recent DETACHED: INTO THE COMASPHERE). She actually lettered a short comic I wrote entitled 'Can We Come In?' for an anthology publication, and I knew I had to persuade her to letter Red Winter!
Cover Artist: Chris Shehan (http://zhourulesart.blogspot.co.uk/)
Chris Shehan is a superb artist from El Paso, Texas. He was a finalist in the 2017 Ghost City Comics competition with the one-shot crime comic DEADBEAT (collaborating with writer Jed McPherson) and is also the interior artist of PROMETHEUS, a successful Kickstarter project.

Risks and challenges
Any risk in this project is extremely minimal. All 20 pages of #1 are already complete and ready to go to print. We just need the money from the campaign to fund the first print run.
Therefore I don't foresee any issues having all the rewards out to backers as early as June, except the pencil/ink commissions, which would be shipped in July.
I have run two successful campaigns myself, and was a collaborator on a third campaign. Thus far, all rewards were shipped to backers efficiently and on-time for campaigns one and two, and campaign three is on course to do the same. This will be no different.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
