To complete an uncensored, conceptual, first collection to officially launch the brand 'Evan Michael Industry' into the Fashion World.
Evan Michael Industry: The Background
In January 2011, I, Evan Michael assembled my first garment to the best of my abilities for mid-year sophomore reviews at Massachussets College of Art and Design, a basic shift dress made of muslin. Only after I proudly placed it onto a dressform to view my handiwork did I realize how far I needed to go and how much practice I would need to create the stunning creations in my head. After taking an internship with OKW in the South End of Boston where I honed in most of my construction techniques, I took what I learned and began to create simple garments, bringing interest with unusual fabric treatments and adornments. While these garments had been originally created for my own use, people began asking where to purchase my clothing and who to contact to borrow for photo shoots. Soon after, Evan Michael Industry was born.
In the past year, Evan Michael Industry has become known in the local scene as a brand which designs unique and interesting pieces. Each piece is both a beautifully made garment and an equally beautiful inspiration and concept. I am dedicated to seeing my unique visions through to the end which is proven through my execution of the 'Safety Pin Shirt' and 'Safety Pin Shorts' featuring well over 12,000 safety pins, each individually attached by hand:
Another example of my dedication to my educational and professional development in Fashion Design is through the piece 'A Fetishistic Baptism' which holds 24,000 individually hand sewn seed beads to fully execute his uncensored artistic concept. Evan Michael Industry: Today
Today, I am entering my final year of my educational career to receive my Bachelor of Fine Art in Fashion Design at MassArt and create my senior collection with which to officially enter the fashion industry. I dream of building Evan Michael Industry full time after school and showing at Fashion Week in 2013. Creating a senior thesis in fashion is a daunting task both because one can already count on endless weeks of all nighters in the studio and taking sizeable hits to the bank account on trips to fabric stores; picking up fabrics which best fit a concept, trims, thread, closures, liners, and anything you can think of necessary to complete a beautiful final look. I am incredibly excited about the future of Evan Michael Industry based on the interest and positive feedback I have already received. Recently, I was also included in a pop-up shop for independent designers on September 6th for Boston's 4th Fashion Night Out hosted by POP Inc. and Uptempo Magazine. Here, I connected with a plethora of people including both fashion industry professionals and shoppers who raved about the collection and even took a few pieces home for their wardrobes!
I have created this kickstarter to aid in the official launch of Evan Michael Industry into the fashion industry by lowering the limitations brought on by budget. I intend to create an absolutely stunning head to toe collection, unlike anything seen in Boston while staying true to my uncensored artistic visions and concepts. I truly believe that censoring one's concepts goes against the entire purpose of creating to express oneself. I have already begun planning some of the pieces and accents for my the collection and I promise, you wont be disappointed!
Any extra donations will go to creating my studio so that I may be able to make amazing collections for years to come!
Thank you SO much everyone for all your support!
Every donation counts and I appreciate every ounce of support! In return, I, Evan Michael, will create for you pieces from my original capsule collection: E.
E: Inspired by contrast and texture, this line explores a world of primitive survival and characters. A destroyed metropolis where humans rely only on what they create sets the mood for a post-apocalyptic urban war zone. The shredded netting destroys what is perfect while creating a new beauty in it's complete defacement while buckles, cowls, burlap, and armor-like pleating engulf and protect it's chosen spirit.
See you on the runway!
