About this project
Go U.S.A.! In 2011 it was decided that the ETA 6498 project watch I assembled at the NAWCC's School of Horology in Columbia, PA, was good enough to submit to the 2011 International Chronometry Contest in Switzerland http://www.watch-around.com/en/subscribers-zone/magazine/article/chronometrie-2011-contenders-line-up-for-precision-title.html the first time an American student was allowed to do so. The watch I entered was modified with the addition of a chronometer grade balance wheel, escape wheel, roller table, and hairspring. Now you can own the same ETA 6498 (or 6497) movement (without the modifications) in a watch of custom design. Pick your dial, hands, case and specific movement to create your own unique custom watch.
The ETA (formerly Unitas) 6498 (the 6497 is identical but has a seconds hand at the 9 o'clock position) is a reliable movement that has been around since the 1950s. It has been used in a number of high-quality (and high priced) watches including Panerai. Now you can build your own genuine ETA 6498/7 powered custom timepiece.
The stainless steel display back cases are a sturdy 41mm ( the 41mm case is available only in silver color) or 45mm and may be either gold or silver colored. There are 3 different case choices. Cases can also be supplied with either mineral glass or sapphire crystals (sapphire crystals are available for an extra $70 ).
Dials are available in 2 styles of silver or 2 styles of black with seconds hand at 6 or 9 o'clock, for a total of 8 different dials.
There are 22 varieties of hand choices available.
Movements are available in 7 styles; Plain silver finish, hammered silver finish, hammered gold finish, deluxe silver finish, deluxe gold finish, nickel engraved skeleton, and gold engraved skeleton. Skeleton movements are not equipped with dials, so the mechanism is visible through the front crystal. All the cases have a clear case back so the movement is visible.
My goal is to raise $5,000 to order to continue to sell custom watches, and also to buy the equipment needed in order to build other custom watches.

Risks and challenges
I have the accounts set up with the vendors to supply all the needed parts. My only worry is that demand will exceed the supply of parts, but the ETA 6497/98 is a popular movement, so I doubt that will happen. In the unlikely event there is some shortage, I will quickly look to find other suppliers for the specific parts I need. I am ready to meet any demand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
