Lore Bits are shiny game counters that we make in our small Seattle workshop. I was making some magnets for Etsy and while I was playing with the comic book magnets; I was talking to my guy about the weekly Game Night and who would be there. It occurred to me, I was holding some game counters, but they needed to be modified.
So.... a bright idea. Until I started testing the potential game counters. Too big, then too small, and errrrrrk that glitter paper was not a good choice. About 20 versions later; Lore Bits are shiny, sound like a penny when dropped and are less than one inch across. (18 MM) Just the right size for most table top and role playing games.
We've also made Fridge or Locker Magnets out of the Lore Bits, they look like this:
Where does the name come from? Laura = Lore bits. So it's named after me. The ultimate vanity I suppose. :)
Supporting the Lore Bits KickStarter will provide additional funding for R & D, retail packaging and let us know that we are the right track. We really like them, but do other people? We use glass, tint and a metal backing to make quality game counters.
Thank you to everyone who is taking a chance on a new product/project. I know it can be scary if the kickstarter looks like there isn't a whole lot of activity. However, you have to believe me that everyone who sees these in person really really likes them. They start piling them up. Arranging them into patterns. Hoarding them.
One of the main questions that I have gotten (outside of kickstarter) is how will people use them?
- Game Counters or using them to count how many points/lives/health you have in a game.
- Game Money
- Game Tokens
I've also had a few people use them to bling out a picture frame by gluing them to the frame. I could also easily see them used in Steampunk creations. Which isn't technically a game counter/token use, but it makes people happy. :)
Here are the current shiny colors:
Stretch Goal at $5,000 - Unlock two more Lore Bit Colors! Since the color choices will be included in the survey, even early supporters can choose the stretch goal colors. If you have some ideas about which colors to make, don't be shy, make a comment!
Stretch Goal at $10,000 - To be Announced
What is the Future?
- Numbers or Figures embedded in the game counter. (R & D)
- Additional manufacturing automation.
- More Colors!
Finally, thank you for your support. I haven't employed a Kickstarter marketing firm, although I have been approached by many different ones after launching the Lore Bits Kickstarter. I may not know anything about marketing, but I do expect any marketer to actually read what my project is before sending me a generic message. (Not that any of them will read this; this is for the real people of Kickstarter.)
Risks and challenges
I have established some dependable vendors and I'm secure that I can obtain enough raw materials to deliver all the rewards. If the campaign becomes immensely successful, I've managed teams before. That being said, I'm incredibly efficient at producing Lore Bits and have a great manufacturing and delivery system. I've spent most of my career in small manufacturer's or workshops, so I got this.
I guess an unforeseen challenge was being rejected on Board Game Geeks company and game accessory list because Lore Bits are not for a specific game. I don't know the reason for the rule, but it is their rule. The Lore Bits Kickstarter is, however, listed in their Kickstarter Press release section of their website. Another mountain to climb.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
