We are seeking pre-production costs for "El Camino." Our film tells the story of a young wife and mother who'd been living in the U.S. for many years as an undocumented worker, went to Mexico to see her dying father, and was crossing back across the border illegally when she was killed in a wildfire. (Our feature-length screenplay is inspired by, but not limited to, actual events.)
Our producing partners are the San Diego City College Film Department, BINACOM (the Binational Association of Schools of Communication), and our own company, Work With Me Films. At the helm of the movie will be director David McClendon, and it will be shot by cinematographer Pepe Alvarez.
The production will be a bi-national, bi-cultural, bilingual and truly collaborative process. Students and faculty from all ten schools (four in Baja California) will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from experienced professionals on both sides of the border. We will be receiving some production funding from college foundations, and are already approaching a variety of other funders. But, in order to shoot the film this fall, we need some funds to begin preproduction this summer.
Just a few of the many activities we will fund with this $6,000: we'll be able to scout locations in the U.S. and Mexico, begin the design process, find and cast actors, and assemble our production team. Everyone involved considers this project to be a labor of love, and will be contributing time and energy to help tell this important story.
