My next album sees me stretching myself in terms of how I write music and what I'm using to craft the songs. While my music will always retain a roots-Americana quality, I'm also interested in layering sounds, and creating a soundscape that reflects the uplifting quality of the music. I'll be using more sonic techniques to craft these sounds and that means more time in the studio, which means a higher cost. I think that this cost is justified because I will be producing the best possible representation of these songs. It is important to me to create a soundscape that is uplifting and positive because I want people to walk away from listening to this music feeling better about themselves, and strong enough to keep moving through life.
A mistake I made with RISE (my solo debut) was to hold back on publicizing it. The songs on that record are quite good, and the message some of them relate was unable to reach as broad an audience, thus keeping them out of ears of some that would benefit from hearing them. I'm talking about mental health here, folks. I did not make that mistake on my follow-up EP, SEASONS. I paid for publicity out-of-pocket, and it was quite effective (especially in light of it being my first campaign). My audience broadened. Unfortunately, publicity costs money.
The reason I have chosen a career in music is because it is a culmination of who I am and what I have to give. My background as a psychotherapist and as a person who struggles with mental health gives me a unique purpose in my music. I want to be an agent of healing, to do that I want to reach as broad an audience as possible.
By donating to this project you will be helping me accomplish this goal.
Risks and challenges
In order to cut the studio time to fit the budget, we are already charting and planning for the sessions. We are hoping that by having a plan in place we will be able to address any adverse situation that may arrive.
Although publicity is always a risk, having a successful campaign under my belt and a strong relationship with my publicist will go a long way in pushing this album strong and getting it to the folks that need to hear it most.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
