About

This project is one I designed to help promote the oenophile culture, unplugging elitism in wine, and storytelling. I am a young oenophile, but a veteran in the industry. Through my years in the business I have met many fantastic people with great large and small craft wine, beer, and spirits productions. All of which take great pride in what they do and all have a story to tell. There is a story in the soil and it's not just nutrients, it is history and heart. Join me as we share stories from vineyards, dinner tables, travels, and food & wine culture.

I am a podcast fanatic. I love listening to stories from my winery and brewery friends, and my oenophile pals. Between some of the laugh-out-loud stories and some topics that can make some people a little hot under the collar, there is a lot of content to be told. I currently am an employee of the Finger Lakes wine region in New York as the general manager of a wine and beer company. I would like to ask for your help. Help me kickstart this podcast. I hope to make this concept a reality in January/ February 2014. This will be a one hour/ once a week podcast format. It will have myself (Nick Baldwin), a featured guest from the industry (wine, beer, spirits, or food), and another friend, or local person from a different background to add a different perspective on our conversations. We will always start with sharing. We will open a product from the guest to share and sample and break the episodes "ice." From their we will dive into conversational and see where it goes! Bring it back to read listener emails, and conclusion. It will be recorded in my household "Cellar.' The show will be capable of going mobile to visit wineries, breweries, and any other attractions as well. It is a winning formula for podcasting and with my connections, should be a success!

What will the pledge money be used for?

The pledge money is needed for equipment such as; computer, podcast/ recording program, decent vocal microphones (4), other minor sound equipment, Initial advertising, web-hosting/ podcast-hosting monthly fees (online data isn't expensive, but not free either), regional travel, etc...

What if there is extra pledge money?

If I get the podcast in motion and there is pledge money leftover, I am going to donate it to the ALS Therapy Developement Institute. This is an organization that means a lot to my family and I. We have already raised over $13,000 for them to help with their efforts in finding a cure for ALS, a disease that took my father this year and millions of others. Risks and challenges

Are there potential challenges to creating the Cellar Dwelling and Storytelling Podcast?

Short Answer: Yes
Long Answer: Initially the early obstacles will be in set up and working out the 'technical kinks." Luckily, I have taken classes in sound engineering and todays technology has become easier and easier to use. Scheduling will also be tricky to manage. Lets face it, life isn't easy and free time is hard to come by. Putting a podcast out once a week, is a lot of work. My initial solution is to record 5 - 10 episodes of content to create a buffer zone. Each of those shows can be edited to add recorded introduction to episode by me to include the episode topic and to any future sponsorship advertising and shout-outs. Once the Podcast is on its feet and the management of it spells itself out, it should fall into cruise control. Problems will always arise like in any business, but this one has fairly low risks involved.
