"A Jazzman's Jazzman: The Gerry Carruthers Story" is a unique new film that unites mockumentary with gorgeous stop-motion animation. The stories of Gerry and the Silver Nugget, the fictional jazz club where he almost sort of got a little bit famous, are brought to hilarious life through improvised interviews with live actors and animated "dramatizations". The film also features a fantastic original jazz score by local composers as well as one-of-a-kind handmade character puppets.
Cro-Magnon Pictures is a firm believer in low budget, environmentally friendly filmmaking. All the actors, musicians, animators, and designers donated their time. The puppets were made from recycled materials like cardboard, toilet paper rolls and dryer lint.
We can make a film on a shoestring, but to get it some exposure still requires some capital. And after a year and a half of work, we feel like Gerry deserves a little star time! Our funding goal of $1000 should allow us to submit to around 25 festivals and still have enough left over to transfer the film to the media required for screenings. Your donations will pay for festival entry fees, DVD shipping costs, and film transfers. Besides the satisfaction you'll receive from funding original independent filmmakers, you will be rewarded with awesome prizes like advance DVDs and limited edition signed posters. If you want to own a piece of a truly singular film before it's released to the rest of the world, this is your chance!
