As an Eat Artist I create transient installations, where the beholder becomes an involved party end experiences a sensual moment. My next step is to open up my own studio and to enhance my label. For my new studio and kitchen I need some funding to create a space, that both matches my special design and makes a flowing producing of my pieces possible. As soon as the studio is finished in march 2017 I will host events, exhibitions and workshops so everyone can experience my work.
You can be part of the next big exhibitions in this beautiful studio space!
For the last year I have worked on many great projects and each customer or partner has been very satisfied with the creative outcome of my work.
During this period I have rented a professional kitchen for the production of my edible pieces.
This gave me the great opportunity to first see how people react to my work and if they enjoy my special concept. This let me look into the market and I found out that my entry into the market will be even greater with my own showroom. It came clear to me that I needed a central space where I can show people how I work in a transparent atmosphere, where I can host exhibitions and workshops to reach to the people. Where my customers can visit me.
My work is so special because it doesn't fit any categories. You first need to understand it. So transparency is a really important part of my networking.
Something special and unique always has to have some presence in the right spot.
And this new studio will make this possible!
I started planning the kitchen with a great team and it came clear that a well designed kitchen space, that doesn't give the visitor any kitchen atmosphere, more of a clean show room space, is more costly than we have planned. We started the conversion of the rooms at Danziger Straße 59 and after some complications during these rebuilding it showed quite soon that the possible assets weren't going to be enough for my plans.
That's why I need your support to make my beautiful studio space possible!
And you won't regret it! You'll receive fabulous rewards and be part of a great project of a big exhibition in this studio!
With my work I question the rigid frame of pâtisserie and transfer it into contemporary art.
My experimentation with perception and presentation in pâtisserie goes beyond the expected.
My eatable installations and sculptures are being displayed in exhibitions and created for exclusive events.
My performative installations and sculptures, which you firstly experience at a visual level, confide to the observer later as an edible installation. The beholder is supposed to touch, consume and "destroy" the work and actively takes part in the transformation of the installation.
He's no longer just observing and becomes an involved party.
The spectator - later participant - is supposed to remember this as an emotional experience.
What‘s left is this experience accompaied by its visual, haptic and sensual impressions. This approach shows exactly the contrast between the sacrosanct outward appearance of my sculptures and the unexpected opportunity to eat these.
Do edible pieces always have to look the same? Do they again and again have to be consumed the same way? How can I create something interesting and intruiging, a more abstract experience?
These questions preoccupied me during experimenting and distinguish the otherness and complexity of my work to the classical pâtisserie.
The second really important part of my work is to create an intense, pleasant and individual taste every time again. How is your event supposed to taste? Light and airy or heavy and spicy...
People can order my exclusive praliné, which was my edible business card when I started - the first taste and view on my work - later it developed to a beloved gift for companies and their customers or a special occasion for private people.
When I meet my customer we discuss the individual taste, have a look at the location where my work will be displayed and then I start with the creative imagination. I draw scetches, first on paper, later – when the concept is settled – on illustrator, and have a tasting with the customer. After I work a lot with complex statics, there is a lot of planning involved. Sometimes a piece hangs from the ceiling, sometimes I work with light, there are no boundaries to build something exciting and interesting.
A few days before the event, when I have all the pieces for the construction I start producing the eatable pâtisserie pieces and the final step is to build up everything in the event location and present it during the event.
We started planning the renovations for my studio in October 2016.
A great team of an interior designer (Cäcilia Verweyen), kitchen architects (Edgar-Fuchs), a carpenter (Martin Klingner - Pantefux Design) for made-by-measure furniture planned this studio together and with the great help of all our helpers and workers we are in the middle of the construction process.
My wonderful assistant Ivy Lin is working on my side and helping out with all the issues every day brings on.
This Saturday, the 18th of february I have an open studio day so everyone, who is interested in the stand from this moment is welcome to visit.
You can get to know my work in a small framing and purchase small unique creations.
Tillmann Prüfer for WELTKUNST magazine this January 2017
"Every sculpture exists just in a specific room at a specific time. And finds its completion through consumption"
and"Finally everything will be installed at the event location - and after a short presentation through the artist the edible sculpture unites with the beholder. And makes him or her part of the work"
Nasri Sayegh in ELLE magazine:
"As gorgeous confectionery and aesthetically scrumptious bites,, the desserts of Kristiane Kegelmann are made to the delight of the grandest of tables - and art galleries - of Germany and beyond.
For the Berliner food designer it is above all aninterogation of the established pâtisserie. Out with tradition and culinary classism!"
"And there was sugar...and it has become mouthwateringly poetic!"
Niklas Cordes in an article for BERLINER MORGENPOST:
"An evening moves on to an integral sensuality"
FineDiningLovers quote in their Online-Magazine:
"Not just Design: Kristiane Kegelmann's edible sculptures"
"Kristiane Kegelmann plays with food in a very serious way. With her geometric sculptures and installations she questions the forms and references of traditional patisserie"
"When she plays with colors, contents are clearly defined. Straightforward taste structures and high-quality ingredients create an aromatic harmony and complete the edible installations, and every staging is associated with a culinary experience"

I am born and raised in Munich, south Germany. Food, sustainability and the content of healthy food have always been very important in my family.
It's been important to know what you are eating and in union with my knowledge in the field of pâtisserie I can work with food in balance with my values. To combine it with great and edgy design and a presentation that involves the beholder is exactly what I want to create new every time again!
My professional roots are based in the pâtisserie, where I last have been working for four years at the design department for the K.u.K. Hofzuckerbäckerei Demel in Vienna. There I was able to strengthen my professional skills in many regards, which enable me now to explore diverse possibilities in a creative and free way. I took the decision to break with the traditional frame of pâtisserie and realise my own artistic ideas.
My artistic works are being displayed in exhibitions. Besides I develop and realize my work for exclusive events.
Ongoing from this march 2017 I will host workshops every month.
In these I combine my work - creativity, design and culinary delight - with an always changing theme that fits to my concept and at the same time opens up a refreshing opportunity to do something new and interesting in every workshop.
At the same time I will start with open studio days once or twice a month, where you can get to know my work in a small framing.
Risks and challenges
RISKS AND CHELLENGES
I spent a lot of time finding the right premises were I can produce my pieces in a professional kitchen which can be my showroom at the same time. In this studio I can host some guests and work in my office in the back.
With a great team of an interior designer (Cäcilia Verweyen), a kitchen-interieur architect (Edgar Fuchs) and a carpenter, who builds up my made-by-measure studio-interieur (Martin Klingner - Pantefux Design) I am working on the realization of this well designed place. There is always the risk, that renovations are taking longer than expected, but we are still in time to finish the studio early march.
I am highly confident in our abilities and I am committed to delivering these products and hosting the workshops on time and with great quality. I will keep my backers up-to-date the whole way through and am available for your questions at: email@example.comLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
