Somewhere off in the mist comes the sound of creaking timber and leather, accompanied by a low wind and the first traces of a stink of dessication and decay. As the wind buffets the fog into damp shreds, shambling figures begin to appear in the middle distance - some as big as a man, some of them much larger, hulking forms.
The shuffling becomes a rhythmic marching as ancient tendons and rotting muscles keep time and hurry the dead towards you through the swamp. Behind the giant humanoid forms now appears something still bigger, fouler, and more ancient - an armoured rider slumped in the saddle of the huge, decaying wyrm as its ragged head seeks to feed on the flesh before it...
Fenris Games have been producing scenery and miniatures for tabletop gaming for 9 years now as well as working with other creators on renowned projects such as Cthulhu Wars. We're a two-man band of professional modelmakers with 30+years background in industrial, museum, architectural, film & TV work who now focus those skills on models for your wargames and RPGs, and we work with a huge pool of freelance sculptors to create the kind of models we use for our own tabletop.
We're creating a small range of heroic scale (28mm) white metal and resin undead miniatures for your dark-age armies - including a huge zombie dragon centrepiece model. Kickstarter will allow us to make production moulds for all of these models and will ultimately lead to a widening range of minis and scenery to suit these settings. Sculptors Jo Brumby and Tim Prow (lead sculptors on Cthulhu Wars) have already sculpted all of the models included in the basic pledges - and will add more all-new sculpts if we hit our stretch goals.
Please note: None of the pledge levels include shipping - this is to allow you to customise your reward choices with a range of other pieces, and to keep postage costs as low as possible for backers both in the UK and overseas.
Any pledge can choose one or more of the following additional kits or sets to round out a warband - whether it be extra bases, multiple sets of trolls, or whatever you desire. Just adjust the value of your pledge by the amounts listed - and please remember that your final shipping total will be calculated based on the total weight of pledge+add-ons.
All minis are supplied with resin "Darkmere" bases as standard. These are 30mm diameter with a deep recess and sunken earth/logs for the application of water effects after painting, to give the impression of the dead trudging through swampy ground.
As a small company we can't afford to offer huge numbers of freebies and equally don't want to add too many stretch goals which might endanger a speedy fulfilment of your pledges - but we have a handful of extras we'd love to offer as new add-ons if you help us achieve higher targets. These include:
Sceadugenga £7500 - UNLOCKED - If we hit 7.5k you'll unlock Grendel as an add-on : - a hulking monstrous humanoid beast who'll have a custom 120mm diameter resin base sculpted and moulded to suit.Sculpted by Jo Brumby.
Heavy Cavalry £10000 - At this target Tim will sculpt more variant undead horses and riders as a separate add-on. We'll add "split" versions of the horses for wider variation and produce 3-4 new heavily armoured zombie riders.
Bareback dragon £12500 - If you help us hit this target you'll open an additional batch of 20 dragons (numbers are strictly limited for the KS at this price) - sculptor Tim Prow will resculpt a master copy of the original model without any of the saddle or harness, so you can field an undead wyrm unfettered by anything but her own miasma of decay and corruption.
Postage costs will be calculated on completion of your pledge, during the backer survey stage of the campaign, and will be dependent on final weight of your base reward and any add-ons you may have chosen. All parcels will be sent by tracked/signed-for services through Royal Mail - delivery times will vary according to country of final destination. These shippings costs will vary greatly depending on the weight/bulk of any add-ons you choose - we're confidently estimating (postal price increases notwithstanding) that this will add between £5-20 per customer for tracked/signed for mail, with highest costs being applied to overseas and/or large pledges (eg. Nekromantik). Costs include not just Royal Mail's actual postage charges ( http://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/files/RoyalMail_2016_Prices.pdf ) but also enough to cover actual costs of packing materials.
Fenris Games is not liable for any customs or handling fees you may be charged by your country on import of your reward(s).
Risks and challenges
The portions of this KS produced in white metal will be fulfilled by one or more of our regular metal casters, depending on volume of backers. The only in-house production involved will be the dragon kit itself, as well as resin ancillaries such as bases and scenic elements unlocked as stretch goals. With more than 30 years' experience in resin production - including both vacuum and pressure casting - and a dedicated workshop set up for exactly these purposes, we foresee no real issues in production beyond the actual physical time and labour involved. This is the main reason behind limiting the number of available dragon kits - to try and prevent any overly long delays in production.
Although Fenris have been involved in a few largescale Kickstarters this is our first solo campaign, so while it's hard to gauge how popular it might be, we're confident that our metal casters can handle any volume of production. Production moulds for both metal and resin models can take a month or two to produce, depending on workload with my outsourced metal casters. Casting of the dragon kits will be done in-house, where we can scale production according to the final number of models needed to fulfill the kickstarter rewards. We've allowed time for all of this with an extra amount of wiggle room to try and cover any unseen eventualities.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
