YOU ARE THE HERO Part 2 - New stretch goals and THE DEMONIC THREE reward level announced!

It's just over a week since YOU ARE THE HERO Part 2 launched on Kickstarter and what a week it's been! The project funded in under 24 hours and has raised almost double its original funding target so far. It was also picked by Kickstarter as a 'Project We Love' and was the #1 Publishing project in the UK.

I know that many people have been waiting to hear about whether the book will be produced as a hardback. Well here's the news you've all been waiting for...

If the Kickstarter raises £25,000 (or more) all softbacks of YOU ARE THE HERO Part 2 will automatically become hardbacks. You won't have to change your pledge, or add any additional postage costs - every single physical copy of YOU ARE THE HERO Part 2 that people have pledged to receive will become a hardback, just like YOU ARE THE HERO did!

Now I realise that £25,000 is a huge amount to raise, and a big jump from where the Kickstarter is currently, so I have added in some other stretch goals along the way which will benefit everyone who has pledged to receive a physical copy of the book. So here are those next three stretch goals...

So if we reach the £25,000 Stretch Goal 4, everyone who pledges to receive a physical copy of the book will also receive three full-colour art prints - featuring artwork by Chris Achilleos and John Blanche - and an MP3 download of FF-inspired music, as well as a hardback of YOU ARE THE HERO Part 2, whether they back at the £20 Gargoyle reward level or at the £100 Hydra reward level.

Not only that but another reward level has been revealed.

So please keep spreading the word and who knows, with another 200 backers or so we could unlock the hardback editions of YOU ARE THE HERO Part 2!

YOU ARE THE HERO Part 2 launches on Kickstarter tomorrow!

Greetings, Adventurers!

I've been teasing it for a while now, but YOU ARE THE HERO Part 2 is finally happening and the Kickstarter is launching tomorrow, Saturday 11th March 2017, at 1:00pm GMT.

I wanted to let you - the original Kickstarter backers - know the date and time first so you can have first dibs on the rewards, which include a backer lunch with Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone.

If you enjoyed YOU ARE THE HERO you'll be pleased to hear that Part 2 contains more of the same, but all new content.

Whether you intend to back the project yourself or not, I would appreciate any and all help in spreading the word about the Kickstarter.

Maybe I'll see you are one o'clock tomorrow... ;-)

YOU ARE THE HERO - Part 2

Just imagine for a minute, if you will, that there was to be a supplement to YOU ARE THE HERO published next year, to mark the 35th anniversary of the publication of the first Fighting Fantasy gamebook, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain.

If there was such a title, what would you like to see contained within its pages?

Trolls, Potions, Adventurers and Wizards

As I have done in the past, via these Kickstarter updates, I like to let Fighting Fantasy fans know about developments that may be of particular interest to them. Well today I have four things for you.

Derek the Troll

Derek the Troll will need no introduction to fans of Warlock magazine or readers of YOU ARE THE HERO - A History of Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks. Created, written and illustrated by Lew Stringer, all of the Derek the Troll strips have now been compiled into a 32 page comic, called - funnily enough - Derek the Troll. (Apparently YOU ARE THE HERO even gets a mention.)

Derek the Troll will launching at ICE 2016, the International Comic Expo, in Birmingham this Saturday, 10th September 2016.  If you're in the area, or you're already attending ICE 2106, make sure you drop by Lew's stand and pick up a copy or two. But don't worry, if you can't make it you can order the comic direct from Lew's website.

Sorcery! 4: The Crown of Kings launch party

This time next week I imagine some of us will be recovering from the the effects of one too many Luck potions the night before, having attended the Sorcery! 4 Launch Party on the evening of Thursday 15th September 2016

Entry is from 6.00pm and FREE, FREE copies of the game will be given away during the evening, there will be a live IGN podcast, you'll get to meet the team behind the game, and there will be special Sorcery!-inspired cocktails, courtesy of the Archmage's minions.

Adventure X

Currently funding on Kickstarter, and already past its funding goal, is AdventureX 2016, the only convention dedicated to Graphical Adventures, Interactive Fiction, Exploration Games, Visual Novels and more.

AdventureX is a free event taking place in London (19-20th Nov 2016), that brings together developers and gamers with a passion for interactive storytelling. But for it to remain free to all, somebody's going to have to pay.

The Wicked Wizard of Oz

Last, but not least, is my latest gamebook Kickstarter project, The Wicked Wizard of Oz. Following last year's successful campaign to fund production of Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland, this year I'm doing it all again to produce a dark, dieselpunk solo-RPG adventure inspired by L. Frank Baum's classic - in which you can play as Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Lion, or even the Wicked Witch of the West - illustrated once again by the phenomenally talented Kev Crossley.

Check out the rewards and help spread the word about this nightmarish return to Oz.

The Importance of Amazon Reviews

It won't be long before YOU ARE THE HERO reaches its second anniversary since publication. In the months since it was published, many people have said many kind things about the book, but it's interesting to note that for a book that had over 400 backers on Kickstarter, and significantly more purchasers since, it still only has 59 reviews* on Amazon.

I'm not having a go, I promise you, it's just that Amazon reviews really do make all the difference, especially for such a niche product as YOU ARE THE HERO. Put simply, the more reviews a book has on Amazon, the more other people get to hear about it. Obviously this makes no difference to you - you've already bought and read the book - but it does make a big difference to me.

An Amazon review only needs to be one word and a star-rating, whether you loved the book or not. So what can I offer you in return for you reviews, other than my heartfelt thanks? Well, Ian Livingstone has suggested I write a supplement to the main book to mark FF's 35th anniversary next year, and the better YOU ARE THE HERO sells, the more likely that is to become a reality.

So there you go. Is that enough of an incentive for you? ;-)

 * I know that 59 is pretty good going, but there's always room for more. ;-)
