As we are nearing the end of this campaign, we wanted to give you a tour of a really challenging story level. Half of that level was already covered in one of our last videos but here is what you will be facing:

Level 2: By the Bloodied Banks

Player level cap: 1 level (from 2-3)

Boss: Durekha and Maitaal

Location: East of River Sirone.

Eastern part of Drish Barahir is in turmoil. Not from the forces of bloodthirsty mercenaries or Zahak’s fierce troops but something much more menacing. The Brick Town that was home to simple folk is now being dominated by Durekha and Maitaal. Durekha the Blood Witch wants nothing but unbelievable power and has sold her soul to the dark influence of the Ifrits. Using Maitaal the undead as her shield, bodyguard and enforcer, he has made the Brick Town into a hunting grounds where her only objective is to practice her dark magic through ritual sacrifice. You need to get rid of her and her monstrosity not just to save the town but also to prevent the move of the Ifrit into the corners of Drish Barahir

  • Defeat Durekha
  • Find a way to kill Maitaal the undead
  • Fulfil at least 1 side quest (per player)
The Witch and her Undead Pet

Side Quests will be an extremely important part of this level as you wont last a minute before the witch of her undead brute. Discover what secrets lie in waiting for you in the dreary Brick Town.

The Old Beggar: Save the old beggar from the troop of the soldiers who knows the secret of Maitaal’s immortality.

Dont Feed the Crocodiles: Find a way to kill the crocodiles that are guarding the broken bridge and allowing people to escape.

Bridge Maker: Save the chief mason’s house from the siege to get resources for repairing the bridge.

You shall not pass: Save a citizen from the cursed undead state and turn him into your companion by getting him cured from Eldaar.

Secret of the Blood Witch: Find a connection between Durekha’s dark magic and Ifrits by investigating the ruins by the river

Explore the town: Scout the area by rescuing the runners. Seek the secret hidden treasure buried in the district but do not be seen.

You will find many game changing secrets and artifacts in this dusty town

That means project creators will see:
-your profile name, - pledge amount, AND YOUR-email address linked to your KS account,

      1. On completion Kickstarter will forward email contact details. Valid emails with attached data of a mark is useful for phishers.
      2. Monies are also forwarded from Kickstarter minus their fee.
      3. The developer then sets up a pledge manager which can directly mine financial details and full addresses. What data is collected varies from pledge manager to pledge manager.
All this can occur long before the project is confirmed to be a scam the hard way.
A message of your personal contact details and financial details being at risk is factually correct, but the process is simplified to fit the warning text.

Thinking about it if they don't change much and get away with it can cross it over to Massive Darkness and vice versa. >_>

    4. Earl McCammon on

To those whining plagiarism I agree however at the same time with games it's not uncommon for them to copy mechanics. Good long time example is D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder. Alot of the content from Pathfinder is literally cut and paste from D&D. I'd like to see them at least rewrite the stuff they did blatantly copy from other companies and be up front about their location but I'm still gonna skim the $1 pledge and if it's gonna happen possibly bump the pledge for cool minis and similar mechanics.

Foxtail Studios, as a remaining EB backer, I'm looking for some assurance that this project will come to fruition. I understand it might be difficult to handle the outcry your distractors have been creating and you feel it is futile to respond. Your response should not be to those who are calling you fraud and scammers, but to the people that are still committed to your project.
Continuing to say that your posted rules are "similar" to someone else's rules is not instilling any confidence. It has clearly been shown that there are sections of the rules that are word-for-word the same. This is not legally using something as a template, or only similar, it is an infraction of copyright law. If you have your own rules, written yourselves, regardless of what rough or draft form they may be in, it would be to your benefit to publish them and let people see what you have done as a good faith gesture. Again, this shouldn't be to persuade those who have turned against you. It is doubtful anything you can do will accomplish that. This is to persuade those who are still funding your project to continue to do so. Since there is no guarantee that this project will be successful except your word and commitment (as clearly spelled out in Kickstarter's policy): "Kickstarter doesn't evaluate a project's claims, resolve disputes, or offer refunds — backers decide what's worth funding and what's not." Remaining silent and/or not accepting errors that have been committed and provide a clear plan of how you are going to bring this project to a successful close lets those who have turned against you to win and will force me to withdraw my support to your endeavors.

Here are some of the key things that are very concerning about this campaign:

      - Plagiarism - their posted rulebook has astounding similarities when compared to the Massive Darkness rulebook, with many paragraphs copied word for word.
For your reference, here’s a side-by-side comparison one of the backers have posted:
      https://tinyurl.com/ybcr8j42

      - They haven’t posted an update addressing all the concerns that backers have raised since the rulebook was posted. Campaign updates trigger emails and other forms of notifications to all backers, which will be an effective way to inform all backers of the current situation and how they choose to handle it. Yet, no updates on that topic, just some responses on the comments page, which get hidden unless someone decides to go in and dig through it. The latest update mentions nothing about the plagiarism accusations. The creator only said in the comments section that: “Its unfortunate that the alpha version bears uncanny similarity with the said game's rule book but since it's not the final version there is no need for us to address this any further than we already are.”

      - CMON’s CEO, Chern Ann Ng, has filed a DMCA notice against them for this. Screenshot for your reference posted by @Impact! Miniatures:
      http://www.midgardbb.com/KenWhitman/Screenshot%202018-07-14%2017.14.24.png

      - Plagiarism - Refund Policy (under Risks and Challenges) copied word for word from Mythic Battles’ KS campaign without even fixing it to show the correct currency.

      - Plagiarism - they copied Mythic Games’ KS profile biography word for word.
      This is Foxtales’ profile bio:
      https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/1412544049/about
This is Mythic Games’ profile bio (starting from the 2nd paragraph):
      https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/1162110258/about

      - Plagiarism - the Shipping section of this campaign is copied word for word from Conan’s KS campaign:
      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/806316071/conan
(scroll to the bottom, right above Conan’s Copyright section, between “We will do our utmost to ensure...” and “...Thank you for your understanding.”)

      - The 3 creators are not Canadians, yet they’re posting this as a Canadian-based project. They are all Pakistanis, but they are not posting this as a Pakistani campaign. They said it is because one of their first financial backers is located in Canada, who had paid for them to take trips to visit Canada. Nothing’s wrong with being Pakistani, but something’s wrong when you’re representing yourself as someone you are not.

It's worth a pledge of $1 CAD to help others become aware of the serious problems surrounding this campaign. Be informed, then decide.

CMON Chern Ann Ng has filed a DMCA with KS regarding Overturn: Rising Sands plagiarism of the Massive Darkness Rulebook IP.

When I saw the update I felt relieved because you had a day to come up with an appropriate response to getting caught cheating. Instead you’re hoping to just push through to the end, take the money and run. If you had admitted you were wrong and cancelled today you might have saved a little bit of respect, but now you’re just demonstrating your lack of respect for your backers, Kickstarter, and the gaming community at large.

      BACKER BEWARE:

A fellow backer @franch1se posted the following comment:

For anyone just coming into the comments, the Overturn rulebook copies not just the format/layout of the Massive Darkness rulebook, but many of the exact gameplay elements (word for word) from Massive Darkness. For example, on page 16 of both rulebooks:

      Massive Darkness:
The Current Level and Level tokens exert their influence on:
      • Hero Skills (P. 53). Heroes can only use Skills of the Current Level and below.
      • Guards (P. 23). Guards (Mobs or Agents) are always spawned at the Current Level.
      • Patrols. Spawned by Event cards (P. 32), Patrols are always spawned at the Current Level, but are placed on the Zone holding the Level token matching the Current game Level plus 1 or minus 1 (depending on the Event). If several Zones have a Level token
of the corresponding value, players choose on which one the Patrol appears.

      Overturn:
The Current Level exerts their influence on:
      • Hero Skills (P. 53). Heroes can only use Skills of the Current Level and below.
      • Guards (P. 23). Guards (bosses or minions) are always spawned at the Current Level.
      • Patrols. Spawned by Event cards or activation cards (P. 32), Patrols are always spawned at the Current Level, but are placed on the Zone holding the Level token matching the Current game Level plus 1 or minus 1 (depending on the Event). If several
Zones have a Level token of the corresponding value, players choose on which one the Patrol appears.

While Overturn does have modifications to Massive Darkness rules, much of the gameplay is the same. Worse, much of the Overturn rulebook is copied (verbatim) from the Massive Darkness rulebook.

I created a pdf that interleaves Overturn and Massive Darkness rulebooks for side-by-side comparison (see link below). Download the pdf, in Acrobat go to View->Page Display->Two Page View. For any page in either rulebook where there wasn't an obvious correlation, I inserted a blank page. In two page view, Overturn rulebook is on the left, Massive Darkness on the right.

Link to Overturn and Massive Darkness rulebook comparison:
