An animated musical short from the world of Looking For Group.
Welcome to our Kickstarter page! You may be wondering "Who are these people and what do they want?". We are the fine folks over at Blind Ferret we are here to talk to you about "Looking For Group", more commonly known as LFG.
Well look at you with all the questions! "Looking For Group" or LFG is an award-winning comic available for free online. It is a fantasy based comic that feature characters that will seem familiar if you are a fan of role playing games both pen and paper or video game in nature. It updates twice a week, Monday and Thursday. You can click here and flip through the archives to better familiarize yourself with the comic. Go ahead, I'll wait.
Ready? Good. LFG is the baby of these two guys:
They have been working on LFG since its inception in 2006 and they are pretty proud of it. This leads us to why you are here.
We made a proclamation: A Looking For Group movie in 2008. It's 2013 and still no movie. What happened? Well, a few things happened. We lost our animation department, we realized how hard it is to make a movie and, most importantly, the money tree we planted never bore fruit.
We never forgot about the LFG movie, it is always there hanging around in the background screaming at us every chance it gets. Recently Sohmer un-earthed an unfinished animation sequence from the movie and decided that we have waited long enough.
"This is War" is the follow-up to another musical short we made entitled "Slaughter Your World". You may have heard of it.
The "This is War" sequence takes place during a battle between the trolls and the gnomes. Our hero Cale is trying to convince the undead warlock Richard to join in the fight on the side of the gnomes. Richard is mostly concerned with causing as much chaos as possible. The whole song clocks in at around 2 and a half minutes.
No one is going to let us make the movie we want to make so we are going to have to do it ourselves and that means we need funding. Why not just aim for the fences and try to Kickstarter the full movie? Well, it's been over 6 years since we announced the movie. Do people still care? Are people willing to contribute to it?
We have had successes with Kickstarter and we have had failures. We desperately do not want the LFG movie to be counted among our failures so we are going to take this nice and slow. First, in order to see how interested our fans would be in helping us make the movie we want to finish the animation for "This Is War". With that animation finished, we can use it to drum-up support for the full movie as well as additional financing. It will also help with pre-production elements for the movie.
$12,000 will go straight to the animators. This includes cleaning, coloring and post-production so we can go from this:
To a wonderfully vibrant and clean final animation.
The other $2,000 will go towards the cut that Kickstarter takes and paying for the servers that will have to handle these huge files. Any money that we get above and beyond our goal will go towards any unforeseen costs that we may incur along the way. If experience has taught us anything it's that there will be many unforeseen costs.
The Squishable Level -
Curious about what a Squishable is? Take a gander over here: http://www.squishable.com/. Curious about what a Squishable Richard is? Check it:
These Richard Squishables aren't even up for pre-order yet. You guys are going to be the first to grab them! Do you know how hard it is for me to keep saying Squishable Richard and not Squishable Dick? Oh dang! I said it.
The T-Shirt Level -
A lot of people have been asking if they can add a t-shirt to their rewards. Why not, says I. If you want to add a t-shirt, simply up your pledge by 35$. When the Kickstarter ends, you'll be able to indicate that you got a t-shirt in the Backer Survey.
The t-shirts will be Unisex from Small all the way up to XXXL.
What does the new Orphanage T-shirt look like?
YOU'LL NEVER KNOW!!
Just kidding, it's right here:
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
As with any project, there are certain challenges that can arise to derail you. Files can be deleted, animation studios can go bankrupt, computers can be shot with crossbows (This one actually happened. Sorry Alex.). We are going to keep everyone in the loop by updating often and replying to comments and questions as quickly as possible.
We will do everything within our power to meet our launch deadline and, if for whatever reason we are delayed, we will communicate with our Backers every step of the way.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
