What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

About

Get ready for a revolution.

The Moonr is the latest re-invention of the backpack. Inspired by technology used by the U.S. Army - we developed, optimized a much more improved patent-pending system that makes your loaded backpack seamlessly float in FOUR directions - adopting to the natural physics of your movements. 

Developed by German engineers and extensively tested & optimized by medical doctors in Germany - we finally finished building the perfect, much more optimized 'floating backpack'.

Walking in space. This is a totally new feeling. 

The initial idea came to our mind when looking for an ergonomic, lightweight, comfortable and trendy school bag for our children.

After some research, we started to look for backpacks with integrated suspension mechanisms. There was not a single backpack available, despite the long known fact that load carrying, be it with a backpack or in any other way, can be drastically improved by suspending the load by means of springs or bungees, or flexible poles. In fact, this principle has been adopted long ago in numerous African and Asian cultures, where people until today carry high loads attached to a flexible, elastic, wooden pole. 

We therefore did further research and came across a US-based company that seemed to develop a suspended load backpack for the military, used for „recuperation of energy“. Getting „free energy“ from actually „saving energy“ (by suspending a load) did not make sense to us. Besides, the basic strategy of the „US Military Pack“ seemed rather heavy, rigid, seems to require adjustable spring forces - and allows only sliding on a rigid rail. 

We therefore designed a rail-based suspension system that can guarantee a physiological, two degree of freedom suspension of the backpack’s load - without the need for a complicated, fail-prone spring adjustment mechanism. In fact, we designed an extremely lightweight, rigid suspension system with a smart array of differentially actuated spring layers that allow a wide variety of loads to be carried in suspension, without the need to do any adjustments to the springs. Using state-of-the-art prototyping and industrial-grade hardware components, we created a modular suspension system that, as a unique and patent-pending feature, incorporates a spring array that results in a differential stabilization of the two axes' movements (vertical axis sliding and rotation) depending on the load that is applied to the pack.

10 unique features.

The original moonr comes with many features. The form design & features without the rail-system have been previously designed by us - find those features below. While we do not believe in „free energy“, that shall be somewhat absorbed from a physical movement, we do love smart wear - and thus have thought of a smarter way to keep your cell phone charged. As a modular add-on, we will offer a solar-powered powerbank that will seamlessly integrate into the beautiful design of the backpack (Stretch-Goal 2). As a first stretch goal, all backpacks will receive the connectors for a power bank (Stretch-Goal 1), allowing any standard power bank or even laptop computers to serve as the backpack’s integrated power supply for charging cellphones via the integrated power distribution hub.

Risks and challenges

We filed our patent already - we set-up the production line as well and are able to produce both versions of the moonr right after the campaign ends. So we do not expect any delays in shipping - although unexpected delays could happen - so the shipping date is an quite exact estimate - but not a guaranteed date. We also reserve the right to cancel the campaign if the minimum funding goal could not be achieved.
