Drew Zingg has been a moving force in music for 30 years...as music director and lead guitarist for Steely Dan, with Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald, Marcus Miller, David Sanborn, Phoebe Snow, Alana Davis and Patti Austin...you've heard Drew, perhaps you didn't know it was Drew Zingg, but if you are a fan of this sound, these great musicians and songsmiths, you've heard Drew. Guitarists of every generation, all over the world have been inspired by his unique, emotional and technically brilliant playing and have compared him to the best guitarists of the last 50 years...in fact, Drew might well be the best guitarist you never heard of...
Here are some examples of his brilliance...with Michael McDonald, Donald Fagen and The New York Rock And Soul Review at The Beacon Theater in NYC...
...or, there's this...with Steely Dan...
...or with Boz Scaggs...
We've put together a website for and about Drew....please have a look: www.dzdap.com
Drew has been a 'first call' player since the early '80's...has toured all over the world and appeared on numerous famous recordings..and yet, Drew has never been featured on his own recordings...with his own band.
What we're doing about it...
A group of friends and industry professionals find this absolutely amazing...and unacceptable...and with your help, we aim to do something about it. More about the folks behind this and our plans for the future can be found at www.theinfrangiblesyndicate.com
We feel that Drew's story is representative of that 'unsung hero' found in every genre of the Arts...the one that has been working hard and perfecting his or her craft quietly for over 30 years, the one that is know within their own industry and by a few thousand discerning fans as 'top dog'. The one that is still chasing The Dream.
Remember 'The Dream'? We've all had one in life - and most of us have not been able to grab ours and shape it until we own it...
The supporters of this exciting project believe that Drew deserves his Dream...we want to stand up and say "we helped make that happen..."
Why? Because it is the right thing to do. Because talent and dedication at this level deserves recognition, fulfillment and support.
We have assembled a band of basically 'legendary' musicians to help Drew make this happen. To have a band of this quality all pulling together for the same end result is once-in-a-million. They are:
On Drums, Vinnie Colaiuta (Sting, Herbie Hancock, Steely Dan, Jeff Beck, Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion, Georger Benson, Frank Zappa, James Taylor, Chick Corea, Joni Mitchell, Robben Ford)...Here's Vinnie with...Sting.
On Electric Bass, Will Lee (Mariah Carey, Mick Jagger, Frank Sinatra, Billy Joel, Burt Bacharach, Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis, Dave Mathews, James Brown, Ray Charles, George Benson, Diana Ross, Natalie Cole, Manhattan Transfer, David Sanborn, Barbra Streisand)...Here's Will with Robben Ford...check it out at about 1:00 !
On keyboards, George Whitty (David Sanborn, The Brecker Brothers, Celine Dion, Santana, Richard Bona, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Chaka Khan)...Here's george in the studio with a couple of friends...
And there will be some very 'special guests...like Boz Scaggs...and Michael McDonald...for starters...
The recording sessions will take place in Los Angeles in the last week of August at the magnificent private studio of another old friend...Oliver Leiber...himself a genius composer, musician and producer. Remember that first record by Paula Abdul? That was Oliver's production...playing...and songs...
During the course of the recording sessions, we will be filming (on three cameras) all the behind the scenes action, the sessions, the performances and interviews with the musicians and crew...so we are going to bring you into the recording sessions...we'll use all this and other footage to cut a full length DVD of the entire process...and we'll be posting photos and clips on the website every day after the work is done !
We have award winning engineers and producers on the project, some of the best musicians anywhere on the planet, fantastic writers a perfect recording facility and mastering engineer (multi-Grammy winner, Emily Lazar!) and should be able to release the CD in mid November, 2011.
Herein lies the rub:
... we need your help. The budget for this part of the project, the CD production, is over $80k. We have about 40% of that banked already...so we need, in effect about $50k before August 23rd. And with your help we will get there. This Kickstarter drive is targeted at raising $15,000 in a little under 50 days. But with Kickstarter, we are allowed to exceed our goals, and that is what we are hoping for here.
We have spent over two years pulling this all together...legendary musicians, a fantastic studio and production team, top notch material for the record, a full video team, marketing experts and internet wizards...it's all in place, ready to pull the trigger. But even with all the favors, the 'help', the cut rates, we need to pay for it. This might well be what will become an historical recording and project...
If you've been a fan of the music of Steely Dan, Boz, Michael McDonald, Rickie Lee Jones, Phoebe Snow, Aretha Franklin, Marcus Miller, David Sanborn...all those guys...and therefore Drew, please step up and help us with this project.
And don't forget The Big Picture...helping other amazing artists gain their dream and their deserved recognition...this is so clearly a worthy and attainable goal.
Without YOU, we haven't a chance...be a REAL patron of the arts...support a project that isn't 'flash in the pan'...support an Artist that has proven his viability, talent and integrity...you'll feel really good about it.
Thank you - !
Unfortunately, no. It has to reach the goal of $15k...otherwise this kickstarter drive is shot. We 'could' ask you all to just go to our site and 'donate', but that's not what we want to do...we love what kickstarter is doing and want to support them, as they have supported us. Thanks. g
