New Funding Goal: $3000 Here's why
The Project: I will attend a 10-day printmaking residency at AS220 in Providence, RI beginning June 27th and ending July 8th. While at AS220, I plan to print 4 oversized etched plates that range in size from 6' - 10'. These will be printed on AS220's 10' hydraulic etching press (the only press of its kind on the east coast).
Why This Project Matters: For a long time I had envisioned making large-scale prints. In 2011, I was fortunate enough to receive a private grant to make five large-scale etchings/drypoints (48” x 72”). The experience was incredibly fulfilling and helped shift the work in new directions. I would like to continue working in this size range and experiment with an even larger scale. I have a background in painting and my printmaking processes are often akin to that medium. Much of my decision-making happens at the press. I intuitively layer color and often monotype while working with etching/drypoint plates.
When I discovered that AS220 had the 10’ press, I began to experiment with different methods of etching, drypoint and aquatint so that I could expand my plates beyond the traditional format. The larger scale of the etching/drypoint takes the imagery out of the realm of a print. This new body of work references primitive architecture as well as the cyclical aspects of landscapes under construction. The expansiveness of the image and subtlety of color and mark have become increasingly more important.
Your Support: All donated funds will provide essential materials for my art making practice such as: paper pulp for making large scale paper, ink, art transportation costs, and the hourly print shop rental costs. Your monetary support will give me the opportunity to create a new and exciting body of work using the unique 10' printing press at AS220.
My Gift to You: Each of the gifts available for your donations are handmade by me with love. Your generous donations will be rewarded with original works of art, handmade Abaca paper or a private papermaking lesson with me. Thank you for your support!

I have been fortunate to exhibit this new series of prints several times this year. Several of the prints were recently on view in a two-person show called “Ballast Break” at Lawndale Art Center (Houston, TX). Last month one print was on view for a survey show of contemporary printmaking at the International Print Center in New York. In addition, I am currently in a three-person works on paper show at Bryan Miller Gallery called “Slow Release” (Houston, TX). Lastly, some of my prints and sculptures are on view at Delaware Center for Contemporary Art "Under Construction" (Wilmington, DE).
Thanks again for visiting!
