Hello Anthology backers one and all, seasons greetings!

Imagine our reaction when we open our advent calendar and find that the Elite: Dangerous Alpha is hiding behind the door - I think you'll agree that it's emergence is a massive milestone in the project we've all been supporting and enthusing about for over a year now, and the general consensus appears to be that we are in for a serious treat of a game.

If you're not lucky enough to be involved already, do spend some time looking at the many streams and videos of gameplay and make sure you're not wearing your favourite socks - lest they be blown off.

The Elite: Dangerous Alpha gives the writers across all of the official fiction projects the chance to really hone their stories so that everything feels consistent with the universe that Frontier have created so rest assured, manuscripts are being tweaked even as we speak.

As you may already know, unless you've been hiding under a space rock - we've been trying to raise funds jointly with some of the other books and our mutual publisher, Fantastic Books - to have all of our stories given the full hardcover, boxed set and audiobook releases we think that they all deserve.  We still need your help, and the Kickstarter is still open until the 1st of January - if you can pledge anything at all, it helps - and we thank you wholeheartedly.  If you already have pledged, we fall at your feet and pray to you like the deity that you are.

Of course, its mid December - Winter is upon us, it's the expensive season, with the customary early pay-day making for an agonising wait till the end of January.  We understand that everyone has to watch their pennies (or their dollars, euro's, or whatever).

There are ways that you can help us to succeed without it costing you a single credit.  You could forward this email, send people to the project page, tell people about it, add it to your forum signatures.  And you can join in our Thunderclap.

Your what now?

Thunderclap is not a medical condition that Cheetara found herself seeking medication for after getting a bit too friendly with Lion-O.  No, instead, it's a way to combine forces over social media to broadcast a message about something all at the same time to try and maximise exposure.

If you're on Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr then at no cost other than a minute of your time, you can help spread the word around and hopefully attract some more attention to the project, its many silly videos, and its ultimate aim of bringing the finest Elite fiction in multiple formats to fans young and old, wherever they might be, and irrespective of any conditions that make reading either difficult or impossible.

What do I have to do?

All you need to do to join the Thunderclap is head to this link and sign up:

You can customise your individual message or use the default provided.  If 250 or more people sign up then it goes ahead, otherwise - it does not.  The more people involved, the more our message will spread across the universe.

If you can - please do this now as the message is scheduled to be broadcast on all channels in just one day's time.

Can I still just pledge to the Kickstarter?

Of course you can - right here:

We're almost half way there at the half way point.  Thank you again to those that have backed or helped to spread the word, but our glorious mission is not yet over....

Now, to celebrate... here's a droolsome video of Elite: Dangerous in Alpha demonstrating that you don't always have to go forwards to get somewhere....
