December Update from Santa er.. Grey
Ah, December! Advent calendars are flying open, Christmas trees are going up, and children are behaving well in the hopes of making up for a year of naughtiness. And us Anthology lot have been as busy (and naughty) as ever.
A Fantastic Christmas:
Firstly, an update on the Fantastic Books Kickstarter which aims make our stories (as well as three other Elite books) into dramatised audio books, resplendent with professional actors, music and using Elite: Dangerous sound effects! The project is currently almost 40% funded, with just under a month to go and it's imperative that our glorious mission succeeds.
To that end, Ulla and Marko Susimetsä have appeared in some of the most bizarre video updates ever seen on Kickstarter, showing the ongoing trials of Commander Dan – an entertaining series that will make you cringe and laugh in equal measures. Please go check it out!
More bonuses have been announced for backers, and as an Anthology backer you should be especially interested in this:
£25 – A hardback book of your choice, with bonus copies of all 4 ebooks, an ebook of Fusion (25 sci-fi/fantasy short stories, including Metal by Drew Wagar), a blooper reel from the wonderful Kickstarter video series, and as an Anthology backer you get a free audiobook of Tales from the Frontier. These extras all apply to you at higher tiers too.
Even at the £1 level there’s a big motivation to get on board, with one random Tales from the Frontier short story, an ebook of Fusion, and the entrancing blooper reel.
Anyone who’s a fan of sci-fi/fantasy should be really happy to get a copy of Fusion for just £1, so do let your friends, loved ones, enemies and pets know!
Write On, Commander:
On the writing side we now have most of our stories in the hands of Fantastic Books’ editors, with just two of the stories undergoing a bit more work before they’re ready to enter the lions’ den.
The editing process will be brutal and traumatic for us, but the stories you'll receive will come out all the better for it. Fantastic Books have some really world-class editors on board, and we’re extremely pleased to be working with them to improve our stories.
For those that backed to get early access to the text, worry not – we are well on target for this.
In other news:
One of our artists, Arto Heikkinen, has been busy producing some excellent illustrations to accompany the stories. If you don't believe me, believe your eyes:
How amazing does that look?
Ramon Marett, author of The Easy Way Out, has made us a beautiful new trailer, with taglines that are evocative of the content of the stories.
2 new episodes of Comms from the Frontier have been released. Episode 6 features Allen Stroud talking about the fiction-building for the game and the challenge of remaining consistent with the classic Elite fiction. Whilst in Episode 7, we’re joined by Dan Grubb, CEO of Fantastic Books Publishing to discuss the value of publishers, his Kickstarter campaign, and what you can do to get your own stories published.
It may seem cold outside, but things are getting hotter and hotter as we approach our release date and make these stories really shine.
Right on, Commanders!
PS. Please head over to the Audiobook Kickstarter for more great content, including that reading from Children of Zeus, by Chris Jarvis. Whilst you're there, throw in a pound - it's worth it!
