Author Introductions: Alex GS
Great to see some more good progress on the main Elite: Dangerous Kickstarter today, and it looks like we have three new mystery authors who have been making secret arrangements with Emperor Braben himself. Let the speculation commence!
Meanwhile, I've made a graphic! Imagine if you will that we've arrived in the orbit of Pluto and we're trying to get to Earth. Right now, our funding places us with a good view of Saturn, but lets push on and see if we can't make the asteroid belt over the weekend eh?
I've updated the video too. I'm no video producer and I'm short on time too, but I've slowed some of the scenes down, and re-ordered some of the slides to try and fit in with a new music track that you might recognise. Let me know what you think. I corrected a spelling mistake too.....
Enough about me though, lets talk to Alex GS:
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I'm 31, I work in IT, and I'm a follower of the once-great Ipswich Town Football Club. That's about it. :)
When did you first discover the Elite games?
Frontier was my "first encounter", so to speak, with the Elite games. I remember being absolutely amazed - and killed - by it quite regularly on a friend's Amiga, and it was the game that convinced me to nag my mother into buying me my own Amiga. I must have played it more than any other game, I think.
What's your favourite Elite memory?
I don't think I have a single favourite memory, but Frontier: First Encounters is my favourite instalment of the series. I loved the storyline, how you were free to dip in and out of it as you liked, how it kept you abreast of galactic goings-on with the journals, how the Thargoids turned out to be not quite what we thought they were. I played through to the end of the missions, up to where they just... stopped. I'd love to know what was intended to happen in the end - hopefully Elite: Dangerous will fill some of that in.
Have you written before or is this a fresh challenge? What made you back the project?
I've written various things as personal projects, most of which are "long-term" (i.e. I've not got around to finishing them), including fantasy fiction and the storyline of a video game trilogy that may or may not be made one day. But this will be quite new for me in that several people will read it!
Do you know what you want to write a story about?
I have one or two ideas but haven't quite decided which to use yet. Sorry, I know that's not a very helpful answer!
What one thing most excites you about Elite: Dangerous? Something that's already been revealed or some feature you're secretly hoping for?
I've been waiting for Elite 4 for ... well, as long as everyone else really. So I'm just happy that it's (hopefully) finally happening. And every time David Braben posts a new video talking about the game it just reaffirms my belief that it's going to be something very special indeed. As for some feature I'm secretly hoping for, I want the Fer-de-Lance to make a long-overdue comeback!
