Author Introductions: Allen Farr
We've reached 100 backers! Thank you to all those who have supported and thank you in advance to all those who will. I'm feeling good about this project and I think we'll make it; but we do need to keep the total steadily rising - so please share, facebook, tweet, blog the link etc. If you tweet, use the #EliteDangerous hashtag and spread the word for the main event too - get that new trailer trending!
In other news, I'm super stoked that Godus made it; I hope it makes its stretch goal to improve on the multiplayer aspects - I have fond memories of Populous on the Atari ST.
And now onto tonights Q&A from Allen Farr:
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m 40 years old and damn excited about the prospect of a new Elite game. I really don't know what to say other than that.
When did you first discover the Elite games?
I discovered Elite shortly after it became available for the Spectrum although I had previously managed a few hours in the captain’s chair at my friends BBC computer.
What's your favourite Elite memory?
So many to choose from, but it has to be the first time I loaded the game and seen that 3D wire frame Cobra rotating on the screen and the words Load New Commander Y/N.
Have you written before or is this a fresh challenge? What made you back the project?
3 years ago I entered a writing competition on a whim for the Earthdawn pen & paper roleplaying game and won first prize, much to my amazement! Since then I have been writing small RPG adventures for first time indie publishers as a hobby. Having said that I’ve never written anything with proper character interaction, so writing wise this is going to be a first for me and I’m looking forward to the challenge.
Do you know what you want to write a story about?
I don’t really want to say anything too solid at this point because I only have the genesis of an idea forming in the sea of chaos that masquerades as my brain. All I will say is that it involves a fraternity of assassins; however this is subject to change.
What one thing most excites you about Elite: Dangerous? Something that's already been revealed or some feature you're secretly hoping for?
Really what excites me is that the technology is now available to make Elite the game it always should have been, but which was otherwise constrained by the limitations of the computing power of its day. I never really liked the later incarnations of Elite, for I always felt that something was missing, but didn’t quite know what it was. From what I’ve seen already from the Elite: Dangerous Kickstarter project that missing ingredient is the fantastic graphics and the ability to play online with other people.
