Author Introductions: Alien

Hi everyone, and thanks to those that have backed the project so far.  This is exciting stuff!  I'm already blown away by the people who have pledged not just to read the book, but to actually help write it.  Thank you!

So the plan is to start introducing you to some of the people who will be writing stories for your reading pleasure, and I'll start with our first author - Alien!

I caught up with her and asked a few questions:

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Well, I am a rare creature, a woman who likes space sims. I am 39+1 years of age. I like rock music mainly, but I also like a variety of tracks and artists. I have a strange sense of humour and I tease a lot.

When did you first discover the Elite games?

Usual cliché stuff, I played Elite in 1985 at the age of 13 on a Commodore 64. I had a save given to me on a Michael Jackson Thriller tape because I simply could not manually dock and the save had a docking computer.

In the 1990's I had first an Amiga 600 then an Amiga 1200 and had Frontier Elite II for it. A friend and I would sit and play together, with me manually docking (it was easier in FE2).

What's your favourite Elite memory?

When I was playing on the C64, I once got pulled into Witchspace and had to fight two Thargoid ships and all the little Thargons. I destroyed one of the big ships, but didn't last long after that.

Have you written before or is this a fresh challenge? What made you back the project?

Recently, about four years ago, I discovered the Elite forum. My love for the Elite series was renewed! I frequented that forum always hoping for a new Elite game. I even had a go at writing an Elite story which you can read here: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?p=16385#post16385

I have also attempted the NaNoWriMo challenge, where you write 1,500 words per day for 30 days to get a first draft of a story. I have to admit, what I wrote then was rubbish, but it showed me the commitment needed to write a story. I failed the challenge, but learned a valuable lesson.

Now I have a chance to write a story in the Elite universe, and I would feel honoured if this project succeeds. By backing this Kickstarter, you back Elite: Dangerous. I may not be a well known, experienced author, but I'll do the best I can to give you a good read.

Do you know what you want to write a story about?

The crew of a trading ship suddenly find the police surrounding them, ordering them to dock at a nearby station. The crew must figure out what is wrong, why the police want them and how to get out of the situation they now find themselves in, and all before they dock at the nearby station they had no intention of going to.

If I am asked to write more than one story, I have an idea for a second story.

What one thing most excites you about Elite: Dangerous? Something that's already been revealed or some feature you're secretly hoping for?

I am hoping that Elite: Dangerous is the game Frontier First Encounters should have been, but wasn't possible at the time.

@Marko - "Alien" is a nickname I was given in 2007 and I liked it so much I adopted it.
I will be using my real name in the book.

Great to get to know you a bit better, Alien. Will you be using that pseudonym in the Anthology or will we some day learn your real name?

Of course, I'm just assuming that that's not your real name... If it is, I just made a gaffe and I'm sorry about that! :P
