Kickstarter is all or nothing: A pledge now will only be deducted from your account if my goal is reached. If I do not reach $7,000 then no money is lost by you: so it's a win-win for donors! This is my one shot to make this important venture happen, so I appreciate your contributions... Let's do this!
From The Diaspora
An educational documentary and program about 8 young Jews from 6 continents and the State that unites us all.
In Israel's most
dynamic city, these 8 "olim chadashim" (new immigrants) uniquely
contribute to the fabric and identity of Tel Aviv. Through the process
of aliyah (moving), we understand and explore the new life these 8 immigrants
create for themselves and the impact they are having on Israel’s
continual growth and development.
Together, we can bring this fresh film and its programming to venues across North America - and eventually the world - to prompt both Jewish-affiliated and unaffiliated audiences to discuss the film's multitude of themes and better understand the importance of community, the state of Israel, and Jewish culture in our 21st century globalized world.
Each screening is meant to be accompanied by a group discussion to further explore the content, the characters, and the themes that will lead to a clearer understanding of the choices and identities embodied by Jews in the 21st century.
Post-screening activities include (but are not limited to):
- Panel discussion with experts
- Q&A session with director Scott Frankel
- In-depth character study and analysis
- Skype sessions with the characters, live from Israel
- and more!
"From The Diaspora" goes beyond just being a film. Its programming will be catered special to the needs of your community.
Why it's important.
Studies show that with each generation of Jew there is a greater disconnect with Israel. Indifference is the most threatening trait to Judaism that can be passed down, and the contemporary film and program that is "From The Diaspora" will engage audiences to help to remedy such a trend.
Identity is the key theme that is explored in this film and discussion, and the journey we witness through the film's 8 characters will put the pieces in place for young Jewish adults of all denominations to explore a community and identity of their choosing.
What's the Money For?
Glad you asked! All footage has been shot, and 45 of a projected 90 minutes of film have already been edited (That's right, we are in the home stretch!). The $7,000 goal will be used for the remaining post-production items of:
- Having an editor finish the film!
- Color correction, titling, & sound mixing
- The creation of original music
- Graphic design & DVD production
- Marketing, outreach and legal fees
- Initial development of the educational packet/curriculum
Money raised beyond the $7,000 goal will go directly into developing the educational packet and curriculum that is meant to accompany this film! So don't be shy, it's all going toward a great cause :)
"FTD" is buzzing!
"What Scott seeks to do through film - the questions he asks, the portrait of Tel Aviv he builds, and the picture of today's Zionist 'pioneers' who seek to build their new lives - is an important story and one that needs to be told."
- Karen J. Rubinstein, American Zionist Movement
- Rabbi Asher Lopatin, Anshe Sholom B'nai Israel Congregation, Chicago
"Scott has captured the theme of 'Aliyah by choice' as opposed to 'Aliyah by rescue.' This is a theme which is pertinent to our times and to the Jewish community of North America."
-Shirah Ozery, Jewish Agency for Israel
With your generous support and contributions, we can have "From The Diaspora" at venues across North America is just a few months! So please, spread the word and help us reach this very important goal and milestone.
