More MA Memories - And Stretch Goal Ideas

Hi everyone,

We’re tidied up after Gen Con and excited about the steady support for Epsilon City!

In this update: more MA memories; and some stretch goal ideas!

40 Years of Metamorphosis Alpha, Installment #3: Epsilon City is timed to release with the 40th anniversary of Metamorphosis Alpha, and we all have great memories of the game from over the years. Here's a recent memory from longtime fan Marv Breig:

My all-time favorite Metamorphosis Alpha memory has to be from GaryCon 2014, where I got to play in my first-ever game run by the legendary James M. Ward. A bunch of our characters had landed on a planet to investigate why communications had broken off. The group was allowed to pick a list of any twenty items we wanted, and naturally most of the folks got the biggest, baddest guns they could dream up. Each time we entered a new building it seemed like we lost another player character, sometimes to nasty creatures in the buildings and sometimes from characters doing dumb things that endangered other characters. By the time we decided to head back to the ship and get off the planet, there were only a couple of us left. I think that I was the only one to actually make it back to the ship, and there were some tough moments at the end when I tried to operate a ship that I didn't know how to fly. When the dust cleared I was the sole survivor and so Jim autographed my character sheet because I actually survived.

Readers – what is your favorite MA memory?

Stretch Goals: We’ve cleared the funding threshold and it’s time to start talking stretch goals! We’d like to get your feedback to ensure the goals are aligned to fan favorites. So, how would you rank these stretch goals? Tell us your “top picks” and “bottom picks” – then we’ll get these ordered in the way you prefer!

Stretch goal options:

  • Adventures set in Epsilon City
  • General sourcebook / setting material for Epsilon City
  • New custom D6 designs
  • The new metal bands – black, gold, sky-blue, and navy
  • Custom paper miniatures
  • And perhaps other items we haven’t thought of?

Let us know your preferences!

I'd put the list in this order.

General sourcebook / setting material for Epsilon City
      Adventures set in Epsilon City
The new metal bands – black, gold, sky-blue, and navy
      New custom D6 designs

I'd also say an MA hat but not the trucker style use before. I'd say a good quality like Anvil brand hat with an adjustable strap. or a hat like SG did with their OGRE KS.

I'll just add that IMO material from previous Kickstarters should be add-ons and not stretch goals. If someone missed the opportunity to get the products from previous Kickstarters they can buy them as add-ons or directly from Goodman's site. Making them stretch goals for this project would do nothing but give redundant copies to people who did participate in the previous Kickstarter. Only new products should be stretch goals and old products should only be add-ons.

      Of your ideas:
      1. Sourcebook/Setting Material
      2. Adventures (preferably a series of linked encounters forming a longer term story arc in the City)
      3. Paper Mini's

      A new idea:
      4. A map overlay using a transparencies to reveal multiple layers of the city (like street level, sewer tunnels, sub system levels)

1 As per Wayne Rossi's comment:
Another thing that I'd love to see would be if the softcover MA book could include the expansions from the Kickstarter: Mutation Manual, Creatures & Gadgets, and Warden Armory.
      2 More mutation stuff
3 General sourcebook / setting material for Epsilon City
4 Adventures set in Epsilon City

I would like adventures first, sourcebook/setting material second as stretch goal (and as mentionned in the comment, I'd like to have "Robot among us" as an add-on).

The band would be a good third option for me as stretch goal.

    20. Jeremy Smith on August 11, 2015

My #1 would be a tie between adventures and setting material, with dice and minis a distant #2

I want more adventures & source material over anything. I really liked the format of Warden Adventures in the previous Kickstarter, with 2-page encounter layouts - something like that for Epsilon City would be awesome.

As I said in the comments, one thing I'd really like would be to have the Mutation Manual in the MA softcover. I guess I'd also say that a Mutation Manual II would be a great stretch goal.

      I'd like to see source books for stretch goals (for example a detailed source book on factions in the city, but maybe also a Metamorphosis Illustrated Bestiary), custom d6, and a its own box set (I really like the way Chained Coffin and Purple Planet boxed sets came out so love to see Epsilon City have that), large map;
