40 Years of Metamorphosis Alpha, Installment #2
Epsilon City is timed to release with the 40th anniversary of Metamorphosis Alpha, and we all have great memories of the game from over the years. Here's a more recent memory from Jon Hook, author of the Metamorphosis Alpha adventure What Are the Prisoners of Rec-Loc 119?
My favorite memory of running METAMORPHOSIS ALPHA was during one of the play tests of my scenario, What Are the Prisoners of Rec-Loc 119. At the beginning of the scenario the players rescued a bunch of human prisoners from a band of mutants. After the mutants fled, the rescued humans offered to help their liberators track down the mutants. The reason why I placed those prisoners there was so that they could possibly be back-up player characters for the players in case their first character dies during the scenario. Well, this particular group of play testers eventually had other ideas. In the next scene, when the players had to figure out how to navigate through a grove of carnivorous trees, they used the rescued humans as bait for the trees, so that while they were being munched on by the Meeping Willows the players' characters were able to sprint through the grove of trees!
