Singer songwriter Jonathan Reuel is in the studio recording his fifth studio record which includes collaboration with an installation artist. If you're not familiar with Jonathan's work, go to his blog http://jrlive.blogspot.com where project updates and rough versions of Watershed Project songs are posted.
Did we already reach our goal? No. We met our first and second milestones. We passed the bare minimum ($2500) several weeks ago, and the second milestone ($3500) on March 13th. Hurray! Now we're moving quickly towards the deadline, and seeing how close we can get to our third milestone ($5000)!
Jonathan (songwriter/project catalyst) writes: "I'm recording what may well be my best record to date. I’ve got a great producer, amazing musicians and a notebook full of songs I’ve been stockpiling. We're taking songs, great art and things I’ve been learning and wrapping them together into a project that goes beyond being just another cd in the Reuel catalog. I hope to end up with songs and images that stick with the listener long after they experience them, resulting in freedom, encouragement and real growth."
Collaborating visual artist Christa Reuel writes: "I've been working on larger installation pieces for a couple years. This project takes the collaborative aspect to another level. I'm excited about the possibilities of affecting the atmosphere of a place (physical or personal) through art and music."
The basic idea of Kickstarter is simple -- people pledge different amounts to help complete a creative project. The minimum goal (which we reached) and the different rewards are listed on the right side of this page. Please click on the one that interests you and join the project.
The Books: The Watershed Coursebook is a collection of drawings and reflection exercises for personal and spiritual growth based on the projects dual foci: Transition and Rest. (6x9 inches, black and white). The Watershed Reflections book will include lyrics, art, photos, drawings, etc for readers to look at, enjoy, and ponder. (7x7 inches, full color).
The Songs: The Watershed Project will include new songs and some favorites that have never been recorded (example: “The Way You Are”). Our team includes Guitar genius/arranger Chris Freeman, producer/arranger Grant Beachy, drummer Nate Butler a yet-to-be-named bass player and singer/guitarist/songwriter Jonathan Reuel.
Jonathan writes: "Pulling off Watershed will require more than hard work, vision and sacrifice from a great team. It will take money. This is where you come in. I estimate a minimum $2,500 in expenses to accomplish this, and that's a stripped-budget, super shallow end of the pool approach. With your help we will go much deeper...
Are you wondering what the money will be used for? If we raise:
$2,500 Little Brook Milestone (Absolute Minimum Budget): We can pay the producer his minimum fee, cover a few expenses and release a simple version of the cd. (Reuels pay project-related travel and art material expenses. Musicians donate their talents and time.)
$3,500 Chattering Stream Milestone (Very Tight Budget): We order 1000 cds (better deal, better quality) and cover some Reuel expenses.
$5,000 Small River Milestone (Solid & Workable Budget ): We can give the producer more than his minimum, cover more of the Reuels expenses and give the musicians small thank you gifts.
$7,000 Big River Milestone (No-Longer-Scrimping Budget): We can pay Jonathan and Christa something for their time.
$9000 Torrent Milestone (Great Budget): The album is well funded!! We pay the Reuels for more of their time and thank the team (producer, musicians, photographer) more generously for their hard work and sacrifice.
Beyond $9,000 (Beyond Milestones): Who knows what might happen? The team might get paid a living wage. We may buy a VW bug and drag the 15x10ft. piece of art around the country on tour. We might release a double disk. Who knows?
Jonathan and Christa write: "We’re excited about you helping us with the Watershed Project. It’s a privilege (and a little scary) to be part of something that’s too big to do by ourselves. We put together some creative rewards for those of you who fund this project. We hope you like them.
These incentives (or rewards) are listed on the right side of this page. Click on the amount you'd like to donate, enter your information, and on March 22nd your card will be charged. We are grateful for any amount given. Whether you can support us monetarily at this time or not, if you like what you see here please forward this on to someone you know who might want to help make Watershed happen. We've already blown past the minimum goal. I'm confident we can make this a great project that we'll all be honored to have been a part of!
