About

[Debajo tienes la versión en español]

What do you do if you are lost, in some strange but somehow familiar place? Your only way to get out of there is collecting colours and using them to learn how to use them in a proper way. Paint Your Way is a platform game and puzzles in first person where we can advance thank to the colours.

Paint Your Way it’s a platform and puzzles game in first person, with a clean design imitating a white canvas to do whatever you want to do and paint your world as you wish, after all it’s your world. Our objective is to create a wide environment, full of details, collectables to find, puzzles to solve, clues to look for, a huge landscape to explore…

The game was conceived for the first time at the Global Game Jam 2014, it was a really crazy weekend. We designed it under the heading “We don't see things as they are; we see them as we are”. After several hours of deliberation we came up with a great idea that everybody likes and we rescued and polished it using the reference/example of Super Mario 64 and Spyro’s open worlds. Q.U.B.E. and Portal’s perfect made puzzles and Mirror’s Edge’s great game design. All combined to create something unique.

It’s true that we already have a part of the game done, but for us to be able to launch it and finish all levels, compose the music, the effects… it involves a lot of work and time, and that’s why we are asking for your support and help. The first step would be launch the game on PC and Steam, but if we get enough support we are going make Paint your Way accessible on all platforms!

Now we need your support because without it the game could never be developed, and we promise that we really want to make this game for all of you to try and enjoy it.

  • Customize your environment and make it your own will be an ability you will get from the very beginning, which will include interactive objects, but reach many more.
  • Control the colour’s power to solve puzzles and make the sensitive objects move and get new abilities.
  • Look into and explore the huge world. There are power ups to collect and clues to find out why we are lost in the dream world.
  • The platforms and the control will be the key to progress across all the levels and gain colours and new power ups.
  • The puzzles and clues will help you to arrive far in this adventure and discover new places with new objects and challenges.

The colours and sensitive objects:

In Paint Your Way the world where we are lost is full of colours to get and sensitive objects to combine with them, like platforms and some doors and puzzles. We create three bundles of sensitive objects: platforms, cubes and tubes and each of them have other three colours to use with.

Unlike the doors and puzzles which are sensitive to all range colour.

Even if it looks complex you’ll understand the logic at the very first time, increasing game’s fun exponentially every time that you’ll find a new colour and learn how you can use it.

Platforms, cubes and tubes:

As you can read before there are three families and each of them have three colours:

  • Platforms: They are sensitive to Red, Blue and Green. The platform will move above invisible rails, which may be we can see with some object. Each colour makes the platform move in different axes, depends on the colour, and so this way we can arrive to new places.
  • Tubes: It affected especially by the colours Orange, Purple and Yellow. Tubes are going to rotate in different way depending on the colours we use. We’ll able to create with them, bridges, new platforms, tunnels…
  • Cubes: This is a very special object in Paint Your Way; they are the only ones which are affected by the gravity. Their colours are: White, Black and Grey. We can change the scale of the cube depends on the colour we tint them. For example we’ll able to use it like a lift or fill a gap to create a bridge.

Power ups:

As we go forward in Paint Your Way the puzzles, platforms and roads will become more complex, but we are going to find some help. There are power ups spread throughout the entire world, so exploration will be the key to get them. With this power ups; for example, we will be able to know how the platform is going to move, how much of the world we have painted, see our trail when we walk…

We’ve got a long list for all this power ups that will help us in our adventure, but we don’t want to show you all of them now, be patient to know more about them.

Collectables

In different scenario and in Paint your Way’s main world we’ll find different collectables. Apart from colours and power ups, we’ll find some sparks, phrases which will give us some idea of why where we are.

Sparks Concept Art
Sparks Concept Art

Collect all of them it’s going to be a big challenge that is going to be rewarded.

We fall down from some unknown high place. What happened? Where are we? We just fell and see what we have around us… white, all white. But a little point of light catches our attention. A bright colour calls us. The red wants to be the first protagonist. Will this be the first colour that will help us clarify what’s going on?

We have to use the colours we find to solve puzzles and travel across this white world. Look for clues and use power ups will help us to understand what happens.

Main World

In Paint Your Way everything is in a big world. A world separated in five big islands. To arrive to these islands we have to solve puzzles for each of them. In those islands we’ll find portals to go to a little world, the same as in Super Mario 64 with the castle and the paintings, apart from that, there will be collectables and power ups spread throughout the main world, and little islands surround bigger ones, if you support us enough, you will be able to design your own little island!

This will be the meeting point and a place to go back every time we get a new colour.

Mini worlds

In those little levels we’ll pick up the needed colours to progress in Paint Your Way. Not only that, we’re going to learn how to use them, solve puzzles and in many cases discover new ways to use them, new sensitive colours and situation that you can’t imagine.

Access to the mini worlds will depend on how many colour you already have, because to access them you need basics colours to complete the level.

The music will be a very important part of Paint Your Way. At the beginning we had an artist working on the project in order to make better games.

We are aware of the importance of the music in the video games and we want for Paint Your Way the same quality as others. Apart from having its own sound track and effects, the music will change while you play. We mean, it depends on how you paint, or how well the puzzle goes the music will play along. It sounds weird, but we’ll able to make our own music when we are painting. You may compose the next hit!

Even if our first goal is to launch the game on PC and Stream for the first quarter of 2017, If we get enough support from you, we are sure that you are going to be amazed by the rest of the features that we are including:

Borja Etxegoena Project Manager / Game Designer / Writer

I grew up playing for the first time to Game & Watch, a present from my uncle when I was six. This has marked my life, I was amazed and wondered how could that machine possibly work. That was the moment that I realised that I wanted to be a Game Designer. But the games really marked me were Donkey Kong Country and its amazing graphic, and Shadow of the Colossus, from which I learnt that games can also be be art.

Favourite games: Zelda Majora’s Mask and Shadow of the Colossus

Jose De Miguel Rigging / 3D animator /3D Modeling

From a very young age I’ve loved to create figures with clay, cable, anything!

I made games in paper and I invented stories to play with them.. And 3D arrived. Nowadays those figures are made by computer. I model, rig and animate characters and objects to build new worlds to play with and enjoy.

The first game I ever played was Commandos, a great Spanish game. I also played Monkey Island and the original Prince of Persia.

Favourite games: Commandos and The last of us

Óscar Pacheco Final quality / 3D modelling

I remember my initial contact with video games was with Prince of Persia, the original one, and I was 7. It was an amazing discovery, as from that point I’ve never lost my interest for this exciting world! After some master pieces like SNES or N64, I switched to PCs, where I’m discovering how big this world is, and it’s being a fascinating journey.

Favourite games: Baldur’s Gate Saga, CounterStrike, NBA2K, GoldenEye (N64), Street Fighter II (SNES).... Imposible to choose one!

Mikel Gómez Programmer

I started playing with my older brother’s console, the Mega Drive, so my initiation, of course, was with the blue hedgehog. The console has always struck me, its games, and I was quite good on it. One day I wonder if I would also be good enough developing them.

From this day on I started a new path of learning how to develop a game, and here I am, working on it.

Favourite game: Sonic, Altered Beast and lately Soul Reaver.

In collaboration with:

Nus Cuevas Music Composer / Music producer / Sound Designer

I started to play video games and playing the piano before that I could read.

When I was fourteen, I was already thinking about soundtracks for video games and composing my first pieces for videogames that it did not exist.

One of the first games I remember in MS-DOS is the "Block out" or the first "Prince of Persia".

Then, new consoles began to appear, including the Dreamcast with which I was absolutely in love.

Since my first remembers, I always knew that I would dedicate myself to the two things I liked most: music and video games.

Favourite games: Mafia II, Red Dead Redemption, Perfect Dark, Shenmue, Zelda: Ocarina of Time...

Apart from the demo you’re going to get just for support us, Paint Your Way will be yours for 10€. The game will be finished and launched the first quarter of 2017. You will get all the DLCs free too.

If you were one of those who misses guides and manuals, we’re going to prepare one with all our passion and expertise.

You’ll have images of the whole map and corners of the game. Also the situation of all the collectables, secrets, art of the game…

A complete guide for those who miss the 90’s.

You will be able to get the sound track of the game digitally. This way you’ll able to feel Paint your Way wherever you are.

How about a little craving? The hard copy of the game only for you. An edition which will contain pendrive with the game, sound track, game’s guide and a code for Steam!

If your support is as large as we think, you deserve a special gift, how about a surprise box? In this box you’ll find the game, but also a poster, postcards, t-shirts?

Do you collect? If is so, our special edition is going to be your favourite. There will be a 3D printed model from something characteristic of Paint Your Way, you’re going to love it. There are just a few, and they’re limited, also, its content will be a mystery, but we sure you’ll enjoy it.

If you reach this level, we’ll have to give us a piece of our heart and Paint Your Way, at least. You could help us developing the game, and not only that, you can also design your own island!

You’ll able to make the island us you want and name it, please, don’t be rude.

Making a video game is a huge work, more when the resources are so limited, like in our case. We sincerely believe that Paint Your Way is going to be a success. Its mechanics are new and unique and the artistic part makes it very different from other games.

Unfortunately we can’t keep on working on the game without your support. We know a lot of people that want to help us, that’s why we are on Kickstarter, it’s an easy way to get the support from all these players, but also to show the world that this great game exists and will be available for pc during 2017.

If you support us, we can:

  • Finish the game, giving it the feeling and aspect that it deserve.
  • Supply the game with a great sound track and FX. And hiring a Sound Designer from the very beginning of the project.
  • Rent an office to work hard until the game is finished.
  • This team has the bad habit of eating and sleeping everyday, and the savings and indie excitement don’t cover those necessities.
  • Part of the costs goes to licenses for all the software.
  • And most importantly, receive the community’s support to make a better game.

If we get more support than we need, we already think how to use that to make the game even better. You can check that in the goals box, whenever we will reach those goals we are going to show you new ones.

Spread the Word!

 Mejoras, power ups

Coleccionables

 Main World

Mini worlds

La música será parte clave de Paint Your Way.

Risks and challenges

Like in any other Project anything could happen, incidents in the program, some emergency, an accident, the computers may attack us and find ourselves in the Tron’s world… But we can promise that we are making everything in our hands to bring this project to the best quality in all aspects and as fast as we can, to offer you the greatest game as soon as possible. We’re never going to forget what are our goals and the quality that we want to reach with Paint Your Way.

We make back ups everyday, every little mistake becomes our priority and each new idea is studied to get a better game. The risks, apart from project itself, are trying to convince all of you and get your support, at least enough to make Paint your Way real.

For us it’s going to be a big challenge to show to everyone Paint Your Way. But we are gathering the best teams and people that we could find to commit fewer incidents, teams which already have a lot of experience.
If you support us, risks are going to sink and the challenges are going to be the best way to learn a get better.
