Skylab Astronaut Ed Gibson @ Something Astronomical
An evening with Skylab astronaut Ed Gibson! October 12th, 2013, Sheffield city centre.
An evening with Skylab 3 astronaut Edward G Gibson!
October 12th - Sheffield City Centre - Venue TBA
Something Astronomical is a lecture evening that hosts guests speakers from different fields but all relating to space themes, astronomy, cosmology, astrophysics etc.
This will be our biggest event yet!
Ed Gibson was selected in 1965 as one of the first Scientists astronauts, he served as support crew to Apollo 12, the second landing on the Moon, before moving on to the Skylab program. He spent 84 days in space, a record of space endurance at that time.
And now is your chance to meet him!
Mr Gibson will deliver a lecture entitled 'Human Space Flight and Leadership that made it possible'.
Before the lecture there will be a drinks reception and photo shoot. Following the lecture, there will be an autograph signing. One photo will be signed for free. Up to additional 3 autographs will be available at a supplement.
While I cannot announce the venue at this time, it is a fantastic city centre venue in Sheffield City Centre, only minutes from the train/bus Station.
However, Mr Gibson's appearance and the event as a whole are entirely subject to ticket sales. Nothing can be confirmed until we have the interest necessary. This is where you come in.
We are on Kickstarter to try raise some money to help with this event. Venues/advertising/travel all add up.
Once again, this event cannot go ahead without your help. This is an increasingly rare opportunity to meet and listen to an Apollo/Skylab era astronaut, please don't let it pass you by.
I will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
Something Astronomical is a not for profit organisation and is dedicated to educating as many people as possible in all things Space.

Risks and challenges
There are a quite a few risks with an event of this kind. I have found many of them out by trying to do this for over a year.
In my day job, I manage various events for a conference centre, from Day meetings to International Film Festivals. I don't pretend to know what might crop up to hinder the smooth running of the event. All I know is that I am very capable and fully prepared to deal with them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
