About this project
Ed Pack Global is a backpack company that, for every backpack sold, gives money towards organizations that fund womens' education both locally and globally.
Our bags are minimal, modern, and inspired. They go where you go, and help you do what you do. We know that consumers are socially conscious, and we are too.
Who are we? We're college students who wanted to do something--really do something.
After spending a semester researching and traveling, we found that the surest way to alleviate poverty is to empower women. Women are one of the most perpetually marginalized populations across the world-- and their socioeconomic status is the most indicative of a country's growth and development. In order to alleviate poverty, we have to start at women.
We combined our passion for social change with our talents as students to create a product that gives back. We saw an opportunity in the market for a product that gives back, and we filled the gap. It's that simple.
But, we know it takes a village. And that's why we're on Kickstarter reaching out to our supporters--our friends, fellow Kickstarters, social entrepreneurs, dreamers, students, and professionals. We need $10,000 to fund the inventory, distribution, and marketing for our first round of bags.

Our Design is...
1) Minimalistic: We know less is more.
2) Modern: We designed a bag that will keep up with your fast-paced lifestyle.
3) Functional: A few pockets and laptop sleeve--just the right amount of organization.
4) High Quality: Designed by a local leather bag maker, we didn't cut any corners.
5) Designed locally: We love our local designers and producers! We believe in investing in Nashville's economic and cultural capital.
Located in Honduras, Mi Esperanza provides sustaining change in the lives of women in the villages surrounding Tegucigalpa. For more than a decade, Mi Esperanza has elevated women out of poverty by giving them the tools and resources they need to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Mi Esperanza provides women with access to programs like a computer school, cosmetology program, and artisan program where they can learn valuable skills. The skills they learn make them marketable and employable in a country where women don’t usually have access to the economy.
Based in Nashville, Thistle Farms employs more than 50 survivors through their social enterprises which include a natural body care company, Thistle Stop Cafe (a coffee and brunch cafe), an artisan studio (where they craft paper and gift products), and global marketplace called Shared Trade. Our partnership with Thistle Farms enables the education, employment, and empowerment of women in the Nashville community.
Our goal at Ed Pack is to one day be the premier brand associated with education. Right now, we are focusing our efforts on women's education due to the pressing need, but in the future, we envision a company that empowers the education of children, women, men, and all communities in need.
Ed stands for education--it's a simple reminder on every bag that your purchase is educating women worldwide.
Our first series is called the Pioneer, because Ed Pack is pioneering the social enterprise movement in the southeastern United States.

Risks and challenges
Manufacturing a product is not an easy process, but we have worked with manufacturers before and have learned from past mistakes.
We are currently negotiating with two fantastic manufacturers who have both displayed ability to produce quality products. Our biggest challenge moving forward will be delivering these high quality backpacks in a timely manner.
Usually it takes 60-90 days to fulfill an order like ours, but we have learned that anything can happen during the manufacturing process, so we are giving a generous buffer to allow us to fulfill the orders by May to not make promises to our customers we cannot keep. By displaying that our delivery time will be in May, that gives us 150 days to fulfill these obligations.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
