About

The Game:

Essentially the core concept for the game is an action RPG with a focus on exploration and interesting characters with less of an emphasis on stats.

Give them a six string swing!
Give them a six string swing!

A quick list of features
-Explorable World Map
-Active Combat with weapons and tools
-Rhythm Gameplay Duels and Otherwise
-Dialogue System allowing you to play as your character
-Multiple Story Arcs to follow
-Random Encounters on Map
-Dungeons with traps, monsters, puzzles and bosses
-At least one major city and an assortment of towns.

The World:

The game takes place in a province called the Sunset Sands. This desert, originally populated primarily by the Ouroborids.

While most of them have moved on to more traditional towns, the Warbands they traditionally come from still roam the desert claiming what they may. Despite that, the recent modernization of the Sunset Sands has brought in those from other provinces and jumpstarted a rush of mining as it was found to be a prime location for rare crystals.

Balladeer:

Challenge them to a musical duel!
Challenge them to a musical duel!

As the player you are a balladeer, one of the warrior bards of the Sunset Sands that travel the land trying to learn about the different people, cultures, legends and lore of the different provinces. By tradition balladeers have a tradition to musically challenge each other with the winner claiming rare knowledge and privilege in the relationship.

(Regarding Music Difficulty: While there is a rhythm game built in, there will be adjustable difficulty including one specifically designed with those not looking to be challenged by it.)

 The Races:

Pick a race and customize your Balladeer!

Rompian (Otter based): These folk come from the Drifting Isles, south of the Sunset Sands. Known for their upbeat nature and stiff upper lip.

Ouroborid (Based on a type of Lizard): Born and bred in the Sunset Sands, they have a bit of a reputation for being the short-tempered competitive type.

Strigidian (Owl Based): Hailing from the Sea of Leaves to the east, they are known for their curiosity above all else.

????? (????) : From the ??? of ??? they ??? the ??? with ???. This is the Race for the 15k stretch goal and will be revealed when it is reached!

*The convention appearance will involve a playable version of the game, but whether or not I have a proper booth will likely be up to the cost of the location.

Developer Streams: These will start as once a week and will generally focus on non-spoiler related content. I will show off how to build a game and give some insight into the progress the game has made in the last week.

My intention is to do these streams during the kickstarter as well, at least once a week.

*Note: While I am open-minded, anything that involves working with me needs to be appropriate to the game.

Lack of Physical Copy: I understand this is something a lot of people have demand for, but unfortunately the cost of fabrication is extremely high, especially in the small batches this would

Why Kickstart this game?

Quite simply, without the fiscal aid this provides I would need to put this game on the backburner for an unknown period of time, and I think people genuinely would be interested in playing it. I have put a good deal of time building a quality prototype, and to have to shelf it would be a utter shame.

Why such a cheap baseline?

Simple fact is, that in itself would be a major assistance to my current situation, and while it doesn't fund the project fully, it is a fantastic kickstart and while I need more to finish it, I can get a part time job to fill the rest of the funds out and it would still leave me a good amount of time in a week to work on the project.

While obviously I'd prefer to work on it full time, I'll take what assistance I can get :).

Why do the graphics look the way they do?

The focus is on developing a game with a consistent, simple and relatively clean art style; so that I can, as a single person, develop an entire game world of fairly large size. While I recognize it is fairly low fidelity, I don't think it is inherently unappealing and I want to give it a fair deal of character in spite of it's simplicity.

When will it be done?

My goal is a year from the time the kickstarter is completed. The is my optimistic timing and while it may prove that I need to delay it, and assuming I don't reach full funding (25k) I likely will have to, but I will make sure to keep people informed regarding progress.

What will it be available for?

PC, Mac and Linux

Why host Developer Streams?

I recognize there are a lot of other developers and indeed a fair deal of them don't follow through on their promises regarding the game. ) it allows a certain level of development transparency that I want to establish straight from the start. People see exactly what their money is being used on and can ask questions directly to me live. While gameplay stuff I may keep secret regarding puzzles and story, I intend on keeping that transparency through the entirety of development.

Risks and challenges

Simple fact is that I am a one person development team. While I am devoted to completing this game if even the minimum funding goal is reaches, if the project is not fully funded, I will need to find alternate financial aid, which may mean I can't work on the project full time.

This would delay release, or reduce the amount of content in the completed version.

However with the weekly (potentially twice a week) dev streams, I will inform regarding any situations that may come up during development.
