Saku Sakamoto is known for his digital effects in GHOST IN THE SHELL2: Innocence, anime, movies, and drama series.
Sakamoto, also known as the "transcendent painter", will take on 5 roles in this solo-project: director, author, screenwriter, animator, and music producer. He will challenge himself with these roles as a one man production team to create the animated movie, ARAGNE: Sign of Vermillion.

Combining the elements of horror, mystery, fantasy, violence, and slice-of-life, this animated movie will push the boundaries of what animation can achieve. The movie is planned to be released in Japan in 2018～2019, but there are countless media outlets already covering this movie.
Thanks to the coverage, the crowdfunding campaign in Japan managed to meet the target amount, allowing the the director to fund the originally grossly underfunded project with the money from the crowdfunding money.
On the other hand, there has been an explosion of support from around the world. We greatly appreciate the support, however we just barely met the target fund, so we did not have enough for the translation budget and thus had to abandon our submission for a prestigious film festival.
Since the director used all his strength and might for this project, we want to release this project worldwide! In order for that to happen, we ask you for your support in crowdfunding for English translators and the entry fees for foreign film festivals for people outside Japan to enjoy ARAGNE: Sign of Vermillion! We hope you will support and enjoy our creation! Thank you!!
■Takashi Shimizu(The Grudge)
The movie JUON was a hit in Japan, so he decided to remake it into The Grudge in Hollywood, which led him to be the first Japanese director to earn wide acclaim from the United States entertainment industry. During the success of The Grudge, director Saku Sakamoto was in charge of the opening sequence for Director Shimizu’s project, THE GREAT HORROR FAMILY. This time, his conscientious gratitude, we are able to receive a message of support free of charge.

On an old factory site lies a menacingly large apartment building in the outskirts of town.
As of recent, the area is plagued by rumors of paranormal activity following the discovery of a female high school student's corpse.
A shy female university student, Rin, moved into the city recently. One night, she witnesses a large bug breaking free from an arm of an elderly woman who was being carried away in an ambulance.
Curious about the bug she saw, Rin looks for answers in the library, and meets folklore scholar, Tokiyo, to find out that there have been many sightings in the past of these strange bugs in this area.
These bugs are called "spirit bugs", and have had its existence kept a secret since the ancient times. People that have witnessed these "bugs" will result in having ominousomens and dying an unnatural death, thus many call it the "Curse of the Bug".
Rin terrified of the curse, meets Nasuha, a middle schooler who emits a strange aura, and Saion, a shaman, while being cornered in by these bugs and strange occurrences.
However, Rin finds out that in order to solve this she herself must face her past that has been sealed away...
What kind of fate awaits Rin?! And what is the horrific secret hidden that lies within?!

Director Saku Sakamoto is also in charge of being the author, screenwriter, animator, and music producer for this project.
Normally, animated movies for the entertainment industry require many staff members in a studio to create a single work. However in the past, Sakamoto has worked on various personal, independent movies, stating that "Movies without the division of labor will result in an intuitive animation that will uncover immeasurable potential."
Sakamoto will single handedly utilize 3D models for most of the building and background art, and then combine hand drawn images and 3DCG for the characters, to create a complex scene. This world can only be made possible by Saku Sakamoto.
Sakamoto, a professional animator and director for 10 years, will use the skills he learned on the job to challenge himself on this solo-project. Self-produced animation films have been released in the past, such as The Old Man and the Sea by Aleksandr Petrov. However, many of these prior works range around a length of less than 30 minutes. There are still few examples of feature-length self-produced animation works to this day.
