Serpents puts a fresh spin on classic secret-identity games like Mafia and Werewolf. Play using our rules out of the box, or throw them out and use your own. Our team has taken measures to ensure this deck is flexible enough to play a range of unique hidden-identity games — known or as yet unwritten — and allows you to cater any existing version to your liking. Mix and match your favorite roles and start lying to your closest friends and family.
Each character’s abilities are printed on their card, so gone are the days of that guy blurting out, "What does the Jack do again?". Additionally, two reference cards are included to ensure your narrator never again forgets to wake up the nurse.
Serpents supports 6-17 players.
One player will serve as The Fortune Teller. Remaining players will either be Innocents, striving collectively for survival using logic and deduction, or Serpents, fork-tongued deceivers, eliminating travelers from the game using pretense and lies. Only the Fortune Teller knows the true identity of each player. He alone will attend the players on their journey, acting as both moderator and story-teller.
The Innocents' team may include any of the seven provided special-ability cards, as well as a number of Rat cards, who do not have any ability in the simplest version of Serpents.
Each game begins with The First Night phase and cycles through subsequent Day and Night phases until one team is victorious. Will the Innocents weed out the Serpents and survive or will they turn their blades on each other?
Seven additional pre-made "blank" cards, with their own individual designs, are included with Serpents, ensuring any alternative roles can easily be worked into your game.
Our intention with Serpents is to refine the tried and true hidden identity mechanics. However, we’ve added a few new roles to liven the meta.
We’ve added the role of the Owl, an unaligned rogue who wakes with the Serpents. This role is intended for more advanced players and can provide an extra challenge.
We’ve also included an optional ability for the Rats, allowing them to attempt to identify one another during an extended night sequence. This encourages teamwork and gives the usually powerless Rats a little extra knowledge to work with when attempting to uncover the Serpents.
Rat and Serpent cards have also been individually numbered. This allows them to be uniquely identified during the game, opening up new possibilities for customized gameplay.
As stated before, these additions do not interfere with any classic rules, should you choose to include them.
Every card is hand illustrated, front and back, in our distinctive style. Drawing inspiration from medieval and hieroglyphic imagery and influenced by Gothic and Victorian design, Serpents provides a completely unique deck of cards for all of your deceptive needs.

Risks and challenges
We've prepared Serpents to go through a fairly smooth production process. However, this being our first Kickstarter campaign, we are sure to hit a few bumps in the road. As thoroughly as we have tried to prepare for the worst (or the best), theres's always a chance we may have overlooked something.
