In 2005, I planned and shot a documentary about a subject very dear to me: showchoir. I chose to follow a year in the lives of the Chesterton High School Sandpipers, a choir I was in when I was in high school. Little had changed: same teacher/director, same stressful rehearsal schedule, same indefatigable passion for performance from these talented teenagers. During the year, frustrations, dreams, and hopes came bubbling forth. Surprising triumphs and unexpected defeats abounded. And through it all, their immense talent and zest for life shone through.
Because Chesterton, IN is much like any other small town in America, these young performers represent the power and potential of music programs all over the country. I'm finally close to finishing this film, and none too soon: thanks to "Glee," the idea of showchoir is more familiar to the average American than ever before. I can't wait to show the real-life faces of this spectacular and strange musical tradition, and I firmly believe that doing so will do wonders for school music programs in Indiana and all over the US. But before that can happen, I need to finish editing the movie and get it submitted to festivals!
I'm so excited and honored to have you on our team!
