We’re making a record! An actual, ten-song, 12" vinyl record! That you can put on your turntable and hold in your hand and bequeath to your grandchildren!
We've made records before—Prairie Music and Civil Twilight—that were pressed into 100 copy runs of CDs and handed out to people we thought could use them. We have never done a major album release or made a record on vinyl.
Slipping the Holdfast, was engineered by Matt DeWine at Pieholden Suite Sound on some of the gear used to make Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Our band—Ariel Bolles (Rachel Ries), Joshua Dumas and Lawrence Peters (The Lawrence Peters Outfit)—made something melodic, aching, angry and lovely.
We think that this record is fantastic, we’re so proud of the songs, we’re so proud of the people who put their hearts into them. We look forward to all of you getting to hear it, and we’re going to release the record on August 16, 2013 with a show at Chicago's legendary Hideout.

This Kickstarter project will allow us to have the record professionally mastered and pressed into a limited run of vinyl with gorgeous cover art by Doug Fogelson. Help us make it happen! Help us finish Slipping the Holdfast, help us get it out into the world as a shiny 12” record. You'll have our undying love and gratitude, and a record to boot!
Risks and challenges
We've managed to do most of this record on our own dime, slowly, over two years as funds have become available. We've used sweat equity, our savings and the kindness of our engineer to get time in the studio, borrowed practice spaces, been gifted cover art and PR photos.
We've been lucky.
The work is all done, the pressing plant is ready to go. We know what the very last step will cost, and all we need is your pre-order to make it happen!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
