A unique motocross documentary that examines the life and mind of one of sports most elite athletes: Josh Grant.

WHAT IS INTERSECTION

Intersection is a unique motocross-narrative film (feature length) that examines the life and mind of one of the sports most elite athletes: Josh Grant. While many only see athletes such as Grant on television, most are unaware of exactly what happens behind-the-scenes, seven days a week, 365 days a year. From constant traveling and supporting a family, to managing the pressures of performing for his team, sponsors, and fans, on top of injuries that come with racing a motorcycle for a living! Intersection is an exploration of human consciousness and the struggles Josh Grant has faced while striving for excellence.

A philosophical journey detailing the extreme highs and the extreme lows of such a mentally driven sport; we will explore Grant's humble beginnings and introduction to motocross, all the way to his professional career and personal battles on and off the track in detail not yet known to the public. From dropping out of school at only 14-years-old, to being blind-sided with financial ruin shortly after the birth of his son, Wyatt... This film focuses on struggles of searching for the right path along his journey to not only find self-preservation but also to find the path back to his winning ways.

At the end of the day, the vision for Intersection is simple yet ambitious. Create a narrative-driven motocross film that is unparalleled by anything that has been done within the sport, and is also capable of reaching out to not only the motocross community in a positive fashion, but also a much broader audience that may not fully grasp the concept of professional Supercross and motocross racing. We aim to achieve this goal by utilizing compelling story-telling techniques, state of the art equipment, and touring Intersection around the biggest film festivals in the United States (Sun Dance Film Festival, X Dance Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, and more).

WHY YOU'LL WANT TO WATCH

All of us involved in this project are not only extremely passionate about the project, but have also grown up riding and racing motocross. Like many do, we realized we weren't cut out to be professional Supercross and Motocross stars, it was time to pick up the camera and share the stories of others living their dream. Unfortunately, in today’s age, motocross videos have been conducive to shaky, hand-held footage complimented by one of three musical genres: “rap”, “dubstep”, or “death metal.” While these genres have their place, we want to create a film that is simply unlike anything that has ever been done within the sport by telling a story that is not only heart breaking, but heart-warming and inspiring. Intersection will be focusing on what an athlete at the upper echelons of the most physically demanding and dangerous sport in the world endures to keep a roof over their head.

Why Josh Grant, you ask? Grant is not only one of the most stylish, talented, and top athletes to ever touch a dirt bike (he has the wins and credentials to prove it), but he also has a story that is unlike any other. After dropping out of school and running away at only 14-years-old in order to chase his dream of motocross stardom, the dream came to fruition as Grant turned pro in 2004 (17-years-old), riding under the Factory Connection Honda tent. From there, the following years lead to a lot of success and extravagant paychecks, all of which, at a young age, can warp one's perception of reality. Eventually, the financial gains at such a young age would catch up to Grant as self-inflicted mistakes based on the aforementioned and more would mix together to create a potent and dangerous soup.

We've spent the last year handling location scouts. Here is one of our locations for the film in Northern California. Untapped freeriding territory!

Now, 27, Grant can see the self-induced mistakes during his early years as a professional, and how dangerous it was for him (and is for upcoming coming riders) to be making hundreds of thousands of dollars, and how easy it is to lose touch with reality, true friends and family. Couple that with his mother stealing every cent he ever earned shortly after he and his wife Ashley brought their son, Wyatt, into the world, battling clinical depression that lead to injuries, and much more, and it's safe to say Grant's career isn't what you see in the magazines or television.

Simply put, Josh Grant is a fighter who embraces the adversity that is thrown at him via injuries or personal battles that spill over into his career. While he is still overcoming certain obstacles, Grant continues to deal with them head on and fight for everything he believes in and prove to the industry he is not washed up... and last of all that this is only a new beginning.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

We've been handling pre-production for Intersection for well over a year. From storyboards and pre-interviews with Josh Grant himself, his wife Ashley, and Mother-In-Law, to location scouts and rough versions of our original musical score written and composed by Oliver Lyu. Now with the 2013 Supercross and motocross season at a close, we are ready to begin production. Not only do we aim to begin shooting our main interviews, retrieving archived footage, and much, much more, but we also plan on documenting Grant's off-season as he finalizes his deals coming into the 2014 season, trains, and tests for what he is hoping to be a year of redemption.

Our crew is working on a very modest budget. A budget that is not capable of bringing our concept to reality, and this is where the Kickstarter community comes in. With your help, you are giving not only us and our vision the opportunity to see the light of day, but also bringing a needed change to the motocross industry by allowing this film to show exactly what can be done with ambition, creativity, and the frame of mind to be a positive change by telling a story of passion, heartbreak, family, and the determination to fight for what you believe in… No matter how grim things may seem. THE CREW BEHIND THE FILM

The man behind this film is Kyle Cowling. Cowling is a 26-year-old independent video pointer (filmmaker), and has worked with such clients as Red Bull, ESPN, Discount Tire, Cannondale Bicycles, General Motors, and more (you can visit his full portfolio here: www.vimeo.com/kylecowling). He also completed a feature length documentary earlier in 2013 which was produced by PanicRev entitled, In The Beginning: The Trey Canard Story, which is currently available on iTunes. Below you will find some of his work.

Creative direction/art direction for Intersection rests in the hands of Colorado transplant, Ben Giese. Now, 25-years-young, Giese spent his first few years in Southern California working at Answer Racing as a graphic designer. Shortly thereafter, Giese landed a position as a designer at DC Shoes. Since joining the DC Shoes team, Ben has been in charge of handling the creative and marketing needs for the DC Moto department. He's also worked with Cowling on a few short films as the art director, and we are excited to have such a talented and forward-thinking individual as Ben on our team. You can view his work here:  http://bengiese.com/

Joining Cowling on this adventure is action sports photographer, Todd Gutierrez. Todd is perhaps one of the top motocross photographers, yet underrated. Gutierrez has teamed up with Cowling on quite a few projects and has an eye unlike most in the business. Some of his clients include Fly Racing, TransWorld Motocross Magazine, and Vurbmoto. Todd will be responsible for all behind-the-scenes imagery of Intersection, posters, and more. Below you will find a link to his Web site: toddgutierrezphoto.com

Something we are truly excited about is having a 100% original score to accompany this film. By going this route, it gives us all the freedom in the world to control our sonic soundscape to build an atmospheric and emotional soundtrack as the film progresses. Enter Oliver Lyu. Oliver is based in London, UK and currently attending The University Of West London, studying Music Technology Specialist for a Bachelor Of Arts Honors degree. While Lyu has been in the midst of his college career, he also completed his first-ever original score for a feature length documentary filmed and edited by Kyle Cowling entitled, In The Beginning: The Trey Canard Story, which is currently available on iTunes. Lyu has also worked on quite a few smaller scale projects with Cowling and has a fantastic ear and sense of where the score needs to go in order to pull on the heartstrings of those watching on. HOW WE'LL STAY CONNECTED WITH YOU THROUGHOUT PRODUCTION

We are very big on behind-the-scenes updates, especially when it comes to projects of this scale. It's fun to let those following the journey in on what we're up to. So, we will be updating not only our social network platforms (Facebook and Instagram), but also our Kickstarter page with video updates, photos, and blogs. This way, you will be able to stay connected and informed throughout the whole process, both during production and post-production. And, hey, some may even end up with some sneak previews before anybody else!

 HOW KICKSTARTER WORKS

If you'd like to back our film, but are new to Kickstarter, it's actually quite simple. This is an all or nothing funding goal, so if we do not meet our projected funding goal at the end of our campaign, you are not charged a single penny. However, the downside is that Intersection does not come to life.

If you'd like to support support our film, but are financially unable to, that's okay! What you can do is spread the word of this film by sharing our Kickstarter page on your social network platforms and with friends and family. We truly do appreciate any and all support you can provide!

We've spent the last year handling location scouts. Here is one of our locations in Northern California, which will be the opening sequence of the film. And, a few other tricks we have up our sleeves!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Once our project is successfully funded, we aim to get right into the production of our film by heading to Northern California to film what will ultimately be the opening sequence of Intersection. From there, it's lots of riding, testing, training, interviews, and more we aim to capture, plus following Josh during race days. Now, one of the biggest challenges of filming with an action sports athlete are injuries because, let's face it, things happen. While the risk of injury is always relevant, and a definite hindrance to an on-time production, we aim to counter that by literally documenting anything that happens along way. From injuries and more, we will be there every step of the way while Josh charges into the 2014 season and beyond.

Motocross is an outdoor sport, so Mother Nature is also something that can delay production. However, we plan to address all potential delays as they hit us and create quick solutions for anything thrown our way, and also keep every single one of you up-to-date as things arise. At the end of the day, this film belongs to you and we want to make sure you are never out of the loop. From e-mails and video blogs, to photos and social network updates, you will always know what challenges lay before us and how we will overcome any obstacles. Heck, there is a very good possibly we may call to you for input, advice, and/or thoughts on how to overcome a potential obstacle. Like we've said, and cannot stress to you enough, this film belongs to you, and we want you to be involved every single step of the way and enjoy watching the process of this film take place as much as we are making it for you.

Hey, hey we're the monkeys, and people say we monkey around. Well, that's just not the case. Okay, maybe a little, but we can't help it. It's our way of celebrating when you wonderful folks believe in our idea and are willing to back us at this level. So, in return, you'll receive... Hey big spender. Rainbow suspenders... Never looked better than they do on you! Here's what we are going to do for you. All of the above stuff... Yeah, you're getting that! And we'll also do you TWO better. We will give you an EARLY download of the digital copy of Intersection. This means you will see it before anybody else and, if you're really good, maybe even see it before us? And the second thing we'd like to offer you... Listen up: Music has a way of calming people, getting them hyped up, and an array of other fascinating emotions. And that is something we aim to use to our advantage. By having a completely original score, hand-crafted to fit this film, you will hear a composition that you simply cannot find anywhere else! With that in mind, we'd like to include a digital download of the film's score when the film is released. It's music to your ears, right?!

At this point, it's safe to say you're getting some pretty awesome things. From digital copies of the film and score, to autographed prints and posters; you're one stylin' cat. However, we think we know how to make you even more stylish then you already are. We would like to include all of the above plus a bundle of Unit Clothing items from Josh Grant's signature line with the massive brand. How about them stylish apples?

We think it's safe to say you're either wildly big fans of us or of Josh Grant, but it's more than likely the latter. Let's sit down, consume a cup of coffee, and discuss what we'd like to provide for you (aside from everything above). With the digital age seemingly dominating DVD sales, it is far more logical for us to release our film as a digital download via iTunes. However, we understand some of you are hardcore fans and still enjoy a hard copy of your favorite films. So, just for you, we will include a limited edition hardcopy DVD of the film! All of which will include a complete Making-Of featurette, commentary by the cast and crew, bloopers, and much more. Oh, and how about one other thing... We'd also like to include an autographed Josh Grant jersey to hang on your wall. Yes, we love you!

At this point, we wish we had the ability to write a powerful love song like Every Breath You Take by The Police. Why? Because at his level, you deserve a love song. However, we are not The Police. Instead, we'd love to offer you the following... Everything above, plus an autographed copy of the DVD by Josh Grant, and also a full set of Josh Grant's riding gear. AUTOGRAPHED personally to you. Jersey, pant, and gloves, it's all yours because every breath you took helped us change motocross filmmaking forever. And, hey, while we're at it, we'll throw in a Skype call with the cast and crew and also show you a few sneak peaks of the film before anybody else!

You believed in our vision, and we will forever be in your debt! What we can do, however, is attempt to make it up to you. And this is what we have in mind and, yes, you get all of the above plus this: Limited Edition BLU-RAY copy of Intersection.
