About this project
About five years ago my wife and I were given a car as a gift. No strings attached, just something the extended family thought we might want and could use. It seemed like a great idea, until we quickly learned that having a car in New York City is no easy task. Before we could even take our first trip to the local TARGET, we had racked up tons of parking tickets. Not to mention, the car itself had a mind of its own. Heat would turn on and off whenever it wanted, the AC never worked, the radio didn't work…Nothing seemed to work except for the engine! So SHERRY, as we nicknamed the car, became our family car- for better or worse.
It wasn't long before I found inspiration in all this madness and quickly wrote a first draft for a short film titled TYCO PARKS THE CAR. The story follows Tyco Bangler, an out of work Broadway dancer who is suddenly faced with the responsibility of parking a car in NYC, and tries desperately to not get a parking ticket.
At about the same time I wrote "Tyco," my wife and I met this great Greek couple that had just moved down the hall and seemed like a great addition to our building and floor. The wife was this little ball of fire with energy to match my own. Vilka! Whenever Vilka and I passed in the hallway we would talk "shop.” Vilka, a filmmaker working on documentary and fiction films and I a successful stage actor trying to make the leap to film as a screenwriter and actor thought we should join forces. "Let's make a film together," we said. After months of similar conversations in the hallway we finally did. And by the end of January 2012, TYCO PARKS THE CAR was “in the can.”
What started out as a simple hallway conversation blossomed into a great friendship and partnership. We laughed, cried, yelled, and at times sounded like a married couple! But something very important happened. We realized the possibility of a great film in TYCO so we decided to spare no expense in getting the best crew and securing everything we needed to make it.
We are very excited about our little "Parking Comedy." However, In order to finish the film we need to raise additional funds. All the money will go towards post-production and distribution of the film. This includes editing, color correcting, scoring, sound design, marketing, and finally screening our film at festivals in the US and abroad. With your help, Vilka and I hope to shed some much needed light and laughter in people’s hearts…and the parking universe.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and donating to our film. Every dollar counts. Happy Parking!
