My name is Jason Hawley and I am the owner and graphic designer of Desjgn (pronounced J Design) Playing Cards which feature my original illustrated back and face designs, printed on quality, 100% plastic. Desjgn recently celebrated 10 years of being in business in November of 2016. Desjgn Playing Cards are the official playing card of Ante Up Magazine and Top Pair PokerCast.
I have backed a number of projects here and notice creators and buyers alike have a resounding theme in common: passion for the products featured here. My passion for designing playing cards is no different, not less or more than someone else's. I create designs that respect the traditional and historical background of playing cards, but also infuse my own interpretation with modern flair.
Here is a quick overview of the goals and rewards offered. Please note that I cannot ship to certain countries as playing cards are not importable namely Russia, Peru, Italy, and any other country prohibiting the importation of playing cards. Please check with your customs bureau before becoming a backer of this project.
This project wouldn't even be possible to begin without the support and passion from members of pokerchipforum.com to see Desjgn produce this Classic Baroque back design in bridge size with jumbo index (2.25" x 3.5"). This design will come in two different back colors: Dragon, a rich cranberry red and, Kraken, a deep blue. Each deck will come plastic wrapped and will be sold as a set of two (2) decks; one of each back color. The packaging will be in Desjgn's traditional and classy black textured box with silver trimmed edges and accompanying logo.
As mentioned, the cards will be printed on a bright white, textured, 100% plastic material for longevity and durability. I go with plastic because, a) they can easily be washed off if a beverage is spilled on them during a game or become dirty after extended hours of play; b) they are not easily bent and avoid, for example, having doggy eared cards; c) they handle/shuffle beautifully with the subtle texture on the plastic surface, mimicing a papery feel.
My updates will include an in-depth design analysis/history of each of the court cards, providing a story of what inspired me, the design elements, and each court card's history.
Speaking of the rewards, they are hopefully simple and easy to understand. Questions are always welcome so feel free to ask. Below are additional images for the T-Shirt designs.
Lastly, a bonus reward for all backers: Your choice of Ace design embossed in either silver or red ink, regardless of reward chosen. This is my thank you for being a supporter of this project!
Risks and challenges
The first challenge that I am working on is reducing the quoted shipping costs for international backers. In recent months, shipping items have gone up especially with the United State Postal Service. So I am trying to see what other options are out there and will update the costs for shipping once I find (hopefully) a better price.
The second challenge will be the wait time as the finished decks will take about 40 days to ship via sea freight and arrive to me to ship out to supporting backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
