We are Hop Culture Farms, a small family run farm in Colchester, CT. We currently have 40 acres of land, and have a little over 3000 hop plants that we have been cultivating for the past two years with 1000 new hops going in this year. We are currently renovating an old barn on the property to become the future taproom. When we started this endeavor we really had an overall focus on craft beer but as we started working the land and learning the craft of farming we fell in love with this way of life. Don't get us wrong we love great craft beer, and have so many amazing breweries in this state, but our vision has totally shifted.
When we really scratched below the surface we realized that what we are really desiring with this venture and dream is a sense of community. I don't know about you, but I feel like there are many people like us who are yearning for a community, a place to go where they can make true connections with people. That has become our new mantra and mission for Hop Culture Farms. What once was a vision of a small farm brewery has turned into a vision of a place that welcomes all people and where we bring back a sense of human connection (and hell, why not enjoy a frosty beverage while you're at it!). But for those of you that might not like beer, that's ok! Come enjoy walking the farm and the hop fields. We want you to see and smell this amazing crop that we painstakingly love and care for. We also have plans for diversifying the agriculture here. Our future plans include Christmas trees, cut flowers, vegetable crops, and we'll likely get some small livestock.
We want to create a place where there is something for everyone. We want a place to find our tribe, and that tribe is all of you!
Oh, and we have goats....goat yoga anyone!
WHAT WE'LL DO WITH THE MONEY
-Greenhouse: This will allow us to further propagate our own hops, and also get started earlier in cultivating our new crops. Plans to do several acres of cut flowers next.
-Larger fermentors: We hope to get 2 larger fermentors to be able to really crank out and have a plethora of the beers that you all really want and love. Will help us to keep up with our production to keep your thirsts quenched.
-Taproom amenties: We want this taproom and farm to be your home away from home. Comfy tables, seats, lighting and plenty of games to get the body moving and the conversations flowing.
WHY HELP US?
We want this to feel as much your space as it is ours. With you helping to make our dream possible we want to create and cultivate a place you can be proud of, and want to hang out in. We thank you for taking the time to read and watch our story, and for any help you might give. Come be a part of Hop Culture! Can't wait to meet you all!
Risks and challenges
RISKS AND CHALLENGES
Listen, any farmer will tell you that farming is no joke. It is hard work. The weather can be your best friend or your worst enemy. It is unpredictable, but that is what makes it one of the most rewarding things you can do. All that being said, we can't wait for you to see, feel and taste what we have cultivated in these soils in your very glass. We want you to be able to pick your own fresh flowers or pick up a premade bouquet, and take home some fresh veggie and eggs while you're at it. We want you to see the pride we take in what we cultivate here at the farm. The only other challenge we face is how soon we can open. With your help you make that dream a reality even faster with our target being this September! We're almost there, and this is the final push! Again, thanks so much for taking the time to see our story! Hope to see you soon!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
