About this project
Third stretch goal reached, goal for £5.5k announced, see the Funding section for details! Also, keyrings will be included with all pledges at the £30 level and above!
The most-magically charged city in England is in trouble, with invisible monsters caused by ill-formed spells roaming the streets, and wizards passing out by the dozen, stricken by some unknown ailment. Through coincidence, and perhaps a little intention, the fate of Widdershins rests in the hands of Jack O'Malley- A workshy vagrant who just happens to have the exact right gift needed to help, but no intention of doing so.
Aided by a kindly German violinist and a fussy wizard who only barely scraped through his degree, he'll have to save the city- whether he wants to or not.
Praise for Widdershins: Sleight of Hand, and for the online version:
“From start to finish, this book represents the highest quality of independent comics...” - Phillip Buchan, Starburst Magazine

“..This is the sort of young talent that makes the British Small Press Comics Industry worth investing in.” - Michael Georgiou, MOMBcomics.com
“Widdershins is a well-executed fantasy story that represents the pinnacle of webcomics.” - thewebcomicpolice.blogspot.co.uk
This is a printed version of a story called "No Rest For The Wicked", from my webcomic Widdershins, which can be read online here! Widdershins is a set of short stories, mostly linked together by the setting, a Victorian-era England, with magic. This is volume two of the series, but as it's a standalone short story, it reads perfectly well without having read the first book, which can be purchased online. That one is called “Sleight of Hand”, and it's a completely separate story about a grumpy bounty hunter, and a magician that accidentally becomes the King of Thieves. There's a tiny amount of crossover between the two volumes, so there'll be a PDF of the first book included in any purchase. Buy both books as a double pack for full enjoyment!
I'm using the same printers as I used for "Sleight of Hand", which they did an amazing job with, so I know the print quality is going to be excellent. The pages are all finished, as are the extras, all I need is the funding to make it happen!
We're keeping it simple here!
If we overfund (a big if!) I'd like to look at getting you guys some nice extras like bookmarks, greeting cards, and such.
If we manage to get to £3500, I'll scan in my entire Widdershins sketchbook, annotate it, and all backers will receive a PDF of it. Mostly it's development for both stories, some little bits of life drawing, working out clothes, scenery, character design, and such. COMPLETED!
If we can make it to £4000, I can add an extra 4 page short story to the end of the book, which will be book-exclusive, not-for-the-website, just because you guys are rad. It'll probably be a short jokey thing that'll take place after the story, a sort of epilogue. COMPLETED!
At £4500, every backer at the £12 level and up will get a full-colour bookmark so you don't have to lose your place while reading! COMPLETED!
At £5500, every backer at the £12 level and up will receive a printed version of the Widdershins sketchbook too!
Hello! I'm Kate Ashwin, and I am excited to make internet comics! I've been doing this for over a decade, and having completed my evil-aligned fantasy epic Darken at 500+ pages, I moved on to the adventure comic I've always wanted to make, Widdershins. I love stories that are adventurous and just plain fun, with relatable characters and a little humour, and this is what I've tried to reflect with this comic.
I hope you consider backing it, have a look at the webcomic online if you want to see more!
Risks and challenges
The pages are all completed, so the only possible hiccup could be with the printers- I'll have to send them correctly laid-out pages with appropriate bleeds, and I'll work with them about the colour balance. I'll do everything I can to provide the best files for the best possible print, though, which may take a few extra days of small adjustments. The printers did a wonderful job with the first book, and I'm sure they will again.
I'll of course keep all backers notified of the process with regular updates about how long it's all going to take! If there's any extra time needed to make it look perfect, we'll take it, but it's unlikely to hold us up for very long.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Of course! You've already helped me out a ton, and your copies are reserved, as well as any extras generated by stretch goals.
Because that one requires a ton of art adjustments, it's still an ongoing project, but it's extremely close to being done. I'm hoping to send it off to the printers in the New Year.
