100%! You wonderful people! Let's get you some extras, shall we? We'll start out small while I make some inquiries about the cost of any other extras.
If we reach £3500, I'll add on 4 pages of concept art, sketches, and stories of real magicians and their acts that inspired a lot of the story. Done!
If we reach £4250, every physical reward (tiers £12 and up) will receive an A5 postcard print in the style of a vintage magic act poster. Done!
If we reach £4750, all of the lapel pins will come with a fancy backing card that doubles as a Royal Bounty Hunter Society Member's card, and basically just looks pretty swanky. Done!
If we reach £5250, we'll jazz up the comic's cover with some silver metallic ink! Shiny! Done!
If we reach £6000, I'll re-release the downloadable digital concept art sketchbook PDF from the last campaign to all backers, and add in 10+ new pages to show a bunch of extra sketches from this book, and some previews for the next! Done!
If we reach £7000, I'll add 4 pages of Harry's notes into the book, which will have some sketches, world info and history of Widdershins! Done!
When a gifted assistant to a mysterious magician goes missing, famed bounty hunter and chain smoker extraordinaire Harriet Barber is called in to perform her own brand of magic by finding the girl before the next matinee.
But now she finds herself sharing the stage with old rivals, an unknown masked man, and mechanical menaces, not to mention a young wizard hoping to make her solo act a double.
This show may go on longer than she'd expected...
Critical praise for Widdershins Vol 1 and 2-
“Widdershins is a rip-roaring adventure and I’m looking forward to spending more time with Ashwin’s characters and world.” - Michael May, Robot 6 @ Comic Book Resources
“...great, great fun, a really neatly delivered romp, with a couple of quirky leads who spark nicely off each other..” -Richard Bruton, Forbidden Planet International Blog
“Widdershins contains some of the UK’s best comic book output... Ashwin continues to create comics that are incessantly fun, witty and exciting.” - P.M. Buchan, Starburst Magazine
This is a printed version of the third story from my webcomic Widdershins, which can be read online for free from the very beginning here! Widdershins is a set of adventure/comedy short stories, mostly linked together by the setting. The second volume was one of the first UK-based Kickstarter projects to be successfully funded last year!
The short story format means that each volume stands alone as its own book, so you won't be picking up volume three in the middle of a story. While the characters from this particular story were introduced in the first book, Sleight of Hand, you can most definitely read Vanishing Act without having read it first, but since I believe you'd get more out of having read all of the books, every pledge will net you PDFs of all three stories published so far, and it's all available to read right now as a free webcomic here.
More importantly, there's is an awesome three book pack available too, so you can have the so-far complete set!
Same as the other two books, because I quite like things to match and look nice on your bookshelf, this will be a very nicely printed A5 softcover perfect bound landscape volume, 100 colour pages in length, collecting the entire short story. The pages are all finished, I just need the funding, so it won't take long to get this book out to you!
It's all going on printing costs, shipping, and Kickstarter fees, nice and simple. If we're lucky enough to overfund, I'll add in some stretch goals as we did with the last project, which got the backers some pretty neat stuff like bookmarks and a concept art booklet.
Want the lapel pin, but your pledge reward tier doesn't have it? Just overbid by £3 and I'll include one for you. NOTE: If shipping outside the UK, be sure to check that the extra for shipping is also included! This offer only applies to the £12 tier and up, sorry!
Hi, I'm Kate! I've been making internet comics for about twelve years now, and I've fallen quite in love with it. Previous to Widdershins, I worked on a fantasy epic called Darken, which completed at 500+ pages, and got me on track to make Widdershins the best I can.
I've been lucky enough to fall into being able to make comics as a full time job, but as any other artist can tell you, it's hardly a goldmine, which is why Kickstarter projects are such an amazing idea for us! Being able to fund the second volume via Kickstarter meant a heck of a lot for my business and for myself, and it would be amazing to say the same for the third!
The music used in the video is Skipping Through the Orchestra Pit by Peter Gresser.
Risks and challenges
The pages are all finished, so the only holdup will be receiving the funds and getting them to the printers. I may need to adjust the files slightly for colour and bleed, which could take a couple of days, but besides that, the printers have done a fine job with the last two books and I'm sure they will with this one too.
I'll keep backers updated throughout the process of getting it to the printers and back, if I do need to take a few extra days here and there to make things look just so, they'll be the first to know about it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
